Affecting hourly employees— OABCIG holds emergency session on COVID-19

The OABCIG School Board held an emergency session (after press deadline) March 23 to act on a Resolution—Pandemic Response and Emergency Suspension of Policy. It was anticipated that the board would approve the resolution of which a portion states:
“That in light of this district-wide emergency closure, the board authorizes the superintendent to place hourly non-exempt employees on paid administrative leave in an “on-call” status and to continue to pay them for up to four weeks during the period of school closure and the board shall reevaluate this authority for any school closure lasting longer than four weeks.”
This would change previous board action from March 17 that would allow classified hourly staff to use available paid sick leave.
