Battle Creek installs new town signs

Colorful new signs recently installed along Highway 175 welcome visitors to the city of Battle Creek. The project began in October 2015 when the Battle Creek Women’s Club voted to support improved town signage.

The project was possible through a collaborative effort with the city, local organizations, area citizens, alumni and community leaders, along with a grant from the Ida County Community Betterment Foundation.

A sign improvement committee formed in November 2015 and met about every other month. Members included four representatives of the Women’s Club: Phyllis Groth, Janiece Lehmann, Mareta Vermeys and Dixie Brueck; Mayor Lloyd Holmes and community leaders Jared Schmidt, Allen Fitch, Dean Fick, Henry Jessen, Ryan Van Houten, Josh Van Houten and Kevin Huss.
