City hall option—IG council to tour former Courier building

The Ida Grove City Council will tour the former Ida County Courier building at 210 Second St., as part of its decision making process in regard to what to do about city hall.

The council is looking into options for city hall. Those options include repair and remodel the current city hall/community hall, build new or move to another building.

The council reviewed a letter the city received from Eric and Diane Christensen, owners of the former Courier building, asking the council if it would be interested in buying the building for use as city hall.

Christensen explained he and his wife bought the building a few years back, with plans to do something with the building after they retired. He added they are still about 10 years away from retirement and have not decided on what to do with the building.

Christensen said, if the city is interested in using one of Ida Grove’s “more iconic castles” as a city hall, he would be willing to talk about selling it. He added he would be willing to give the city “a good deal,” as long as the building was going to be taken care of.
