Constance “Connie” J. Dau

HOLSTEIN – Private family services for Constance “Connie” J. Dau, 75, of Holstein will be at St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing with the Rev. Tami Groth officiating. Burial will be in the Cushing Cemetery at Cushing. Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home in Correctionville is in charge of arrangements.

She died March 24, 2021, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee.

Connie was born May 30, 1945, to Phyllis Ahlf in Sioux City. She attended grade school at Sioux City Heelan and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1963.

Connie married Randy Dau Dec. 26, 1983.She was a social worker for most of her career, working for Woodbury County Community Action Agency.

She was an advocate in the community for women, co-founding Women Aware and Battered Women’s Shelter. Connie started the Homeless Project, in addition to being involved in many other community organizations that helped people in need.

She then worked at Proteus Inc., where she worked with regional and migrant farmworkers. She later worked for Goodwill of Siouxland, where she oversaw 16 stores in 13 cities and four states.

In 2008, Randy and Connie purchased a small truck stop in Defiance, where people enjoyed her food and company for nine years.

After retirement, Connie enjoyed spending time with grandchildren, collecting and spending time at the lakes. She made friends everywhere she went and loved to tell jokes.

She is survived by her husband, Randy of Holstein; and her children: Scott (Tracie) Willson of Olathe, Kan.; Mistie (Jared) Greger of Sioux City; Tracey (Lenny) Jolin of Cushing; Troy (Ify) Willson of Phoenix, Ariz.; Jayme (Zane) Chwirka of Sioux City; Jennifer (Dave) Dykstra of Boyden; and Jeremy (Laura) Dau of Moville.

Also surviving are 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Jane Long of Reno, Nev., and Mary (Jim) Gengler of Fort Rice, N.D.

Connie was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis Vilim, and father-in-law, Clarence Dau.
