Falcons to play for state football title

OABCIG defeated Algona 41-32 in the class 2A state football playoff semifinal in the UNI Dome Saturday. That victory set up a showdown with Waukon for the 2A state title this Friday at 1 p.m. in the dome.

OABCIG and Waukon will both enter the game with 12-0 records. Waukon is the number one seed in class 2A according to the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s RPI rankings. OABCIG is number four. The Falcons will be playing for their first state football title. Waukon has one state title to its credit, which came in 2017.

“To be in this position has been an incredible run for our guys,” noted coach Larry Allen. “One way or another our season is going to end this Friday in the dome. We talked before the Algona game about ending the season in the dome is not a bad thing. Anytime you can do that (end season in dome) it is a phenomenal thing.”

Allen also noted the fan support his club has received all season. “The crowd support (Saturday) was fantastic. The amount of emotion the fans put out for is great and we feed off of that. We’ve been able to do that all year and it really helps.”
