Falcons win first district title, qualify for football playoffs

OABCIG defeated Greene County 35-13 Friday in a game that decided the class 2A district nine championship. The win put the Falcons into the playoffs as the number four seed state wide in class 2A.

OABCIG, 9-0, will host West Marshall (6-3) in a first round playoff game in Ida Grove this Friday at 7 p.m. If the Falcons win the playoff opener, they would host either Benton (number six seed) or PCM-Monroe (number 10 seed) in a quarterfinal round game Friday, Nov. 8. Class 2A semifinal games will be played at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls on Saturday, Nov. 16. The 2A championship game is set for Friday, Nov. 22, at the UNI Dome.

Friday’s win over Greene County, which gave OABCIG the district nine title, was the first district football championship for OABCIG.

“We’ve been the runner-up a couple of times, but this is our first district championship,” noted coach Larry Allen. “It is quite an accomplishment for the kids. They are a good group of kids that are a tightly-knit group that work well together.”
