IG council sets public hearing on proposed 2019-20 budget

The Ida Grove City Council will hold a public hearing on the city’s proposed 2019-20 fiscal year budget Monday, March 4 at 6 p.m. at the city council chambers.

Any resident or taxpayer may attend the public hearing to offer comments on any part of the propsed budget.

During a special council meeting Feb. 12 to discuss the budget and set the public hearing, City Clerk Heather Sweeden noted after making several budget cuts to numerous line items within the general fund the fiscal year 2019-20 budget is estimated to be $272,000 in the negative. Sweeden said there is no one single area in the budget that accounts for a majority of the negative figure. She noted it stems from several different areas of the budget.

Because the city is maxed out on all non-voted levies, the council discussed the need for creating more revenue for the general fund as well as asking city staff to focus on bringing budgeted expenses down.
