IG council sets zoning public hearing, updates zoning map

The Ida Grove City Council approved an updated city zoning map June 3 and set a public hearing to review several proposed zoning changes for possible future housing development areas.

Reynold McLead of the Planning and Zoning Commission brought the council up-to-date on the work he did to update the city’s zoning map. McLead noted the city has an official zoning map dated 1977, but no updates to the map have been made since the first map.

McLead went through city records and newspaper official notices to find out when zoning variances had been granted. He used that information to update the zoning map to reflect those changes.

McLead said the new map would be beneficial to the city and to others, so they know how current areas in the city are zoned.

The council approved the first reading and waived the second reading of the updated zoning map. A public hearing on the updated map is not required, as the zoning changes were approved by previous city councils. However, those changes in zoning were never made to the 1977 map.
