King Theatre restoration nearing completion

Renovation of the King Theatre in Ida Grove is in its final stages. The renovation committee is hoping to have a grand opening of the theatre during Ida Grove’s Heritage Days.

The update on the renovation came during the annual Ida Grove Community Foundation, Inc. Board of Director’s meeting at the theatre Wednesday, April 3. The foundation is the governing body coordinating the renovation.

Doug Clough, president of the foundation, opened the gathering of board members and invited guests who have shown interest in the theatre through their financial giving. He noted the renovation, which started in 2015, has taken longer than anyone imagined, but it has been worth it. Clough noted the 2017 collapse of the back wall of the theatre set the project back by several months.

Clough welcomed Bob Fridley, who owned the King Theatre from 1950 to 1981 and has donated funds for the restoration. Fridley, who is 102 years old, noted his father owned the theatre in the mid-1920s.
