The OABCIG girls’ 4x100 relay team of, from left, Morgan Godbersen, Anna Winterrowd, Sarah Cotton and Sydney Durbin won the class 2A state championship Saturday with a time of :50.09. Coach Bob Saunders said the girls’ time was 0.63 faster than the season’s best, which is remarkable. “I believe the girls were so focused and determined to win the 4x100, it pushed them to the next level. The handoffs really clicked at the right time and our speed through the zone was the difference. Everyone in the final has great sprinters and we knew it would be very close from season results and after the prelims. The girls, under the direction of coach Tony Napierala, worked so hard to accomplish the state 4x100 title. It was such an inspirational moment to see it happen and the elation on their faces.” The same four girls placed seventh in the 4x200 with a time of 1:48.71.
