River Valley board approves additional sports sharing with Ridge View school

According to a letter from River Valley Superintendent Ken Slater that was shared with school district residents Oct. 31, the River Valley School Board has voted to share several sports with Ridge View during the 2019-20 school year.

The sports involved are high school wrestling, girls’ and boys’ track and girls’ golf. Slater noted the possible sharing of baseball will be discussed in the coming months. The two schools shared wrestling and girls’ track during the 2018-19 school year.

The Galva-Holstein and Schaller-Crestland boards have yet to take action on the sharing plan. G-H and S-C will have a joint meeting on Nov. 11.

In his letter, Slater shared information from a needs’ assessment survey done in the district last fall, which showed that 72 percent of the respondents agreed, to some degree, that track, baseball, football and girls’ golf were concerns because of low participation numbers.

The other information in the survey showed that two districts (Kingsley-Pierson and Ridge View) were clearly identified as districts to consider in sharing.
