Supervisors receive construction update, electrical improvement proposal

The Ida County Board of Supervisors met Feb. 12 to hear a road construction update from county engineer Jeff Williams and discuss a proposal from Justin Georg (Ida County Sanitation) regarding electrical improvements at the recycling center. Supervisors present were Creston Schubert (chairman), Rhett Leonard and Ray Drey.

Williams presented information he received from Eric Cowles with the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) regarding the city of Ida Grove’s request for funds to help rebuild the Moorehead Avenue bridge. Williams had asked Cowles if it was legal for the county to utilize farm-to-market funds inside city limits on farm-to-market extension routes.

According to Cowles, it “depends.” Per an email to Williams, Cowles says, “If Ida Grove is less then 2,500 population, yes, you can, if the residences in the project limits are greater than 200 feet apart.” If that stipulation is not met, Cowles says they would have to use local money.
