Thomas “Tom” Johnson

IDA GROVE – Services for Thomas “Tom” Johnson, 81, of Ida Grove, (formerly of Onawa) will be at 2 p.m., Friday, April 16, 2021, at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, with the Rev. Michael Lewis officiating. (Attendees are asked to bring and wear masks).

Burial will be in the Onawa Cemetery at Onawa with military honors provided by U.S. Air Force and David McNeill American Legion Post #129 at Onawa. Arrangements are under direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

He died Feb. 5, 2021, at Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove.

Tom was born Aug. 20, 1939, son of Robert and Helen (Smith) Johnson. He was inducted in the U.S. Air Force Aug. 16, 1957, until his honorable discharge Aug. 15, 1961.

Tom and Pat (Hughes) married March 24, 1962. He worked for Farmers Coop, West Monona School in the maintenance department and Blackbird Bend Casino, also in the maintenance department.

He enjoyed golfing, going to the casino, being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and sitting outside and visiting with family and friends. He loved to venture out and get ice cream.

Survivors include his daughter, Stacy (Earl) Krayenhagen of Ida Grove and her family; a sister, Suzette Rudnick of Manning and her family; a sister-in-law, Denise Johnson of Onawa and her family; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen (Smith) Johnson; his wife, Pat; a daughter, Sabrina; a brother, Jim Johnson; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Rudnick.
