Letter to the Editor
To the Editor:
In the July 16, 2025 issue of the Holstein Advance, the administration of the town of Holstein, Iowa, had a legal notice about a Variance of Zoning Hearing for the address of 1500 S. Kiel Street.
To explain this further, the owner of the property of Holstein Senior Living is requesting a variance to the zoning rules, so that the American Legion Post 225 of Iowa can build a 16-foot by 16-foot roof over the Ida County Freedom Rock, to protect the paint on the rock from the natural weather elements. This issue will be decided upon at a public hearing during the 5 p.m. meeting of the Holstein City Council, to be held at City Hall on Monday, Aug. 4, 2025. We urge any community members for or against the issuance of this building permit to attend and express their feelings.
The Holstein American Legion appreciates the support that the Holstein Senior Living has given with all the patriotic displays that the Legion has built on their property. The support and encouragement from Holstein Senior Living is a classic display of cooperation in our community.
Keith Olson, Commander
Post 225, Holstein American Legion
