1934 – 2023

 

IDA GROVE - Margaret Hoffman, 89, of Ida Grove, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023. Per Margaret’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. The Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, is entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences may be left at christensenvanhouten.com.  

Born on May 6, 1934, in Ida Grove, Margaret Joan (Kahl) Hoffman was the daughter of Rudolph and Amelie (Meinen) Kahl. She was baptized and later confirmed in her Christian faith at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove. A native of Ida Grove, Margaret received her education in the Ida Grove Community School District graduating with the class of 1952.

On Aug. 19, 1952, Margaret was united in marriage to John “Jack” Hoffman in the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove. The couple made their home in Ida Grove and were blessed with sons Keith and Brian. Jack and Margaret celebrated 45 years together until Jacks passing in 1998.

Margaret enjoyed her time as a homemaker. She later obtained her license as an EMT, but found her true calling as a CNA (Certified Nurse’s Assistant) working at the local nursing home. She was a gifted seamstress, an accomplished cook and excellent baker. Margaret loved gardening, fishing and was an avid fan of the Sioux City Musketeers, Iowa Hawkeyes, and NASCAR racing. In her leisure time, she loved traveling with her longtime friend and companion for over 20 years, Dean McCormick.

A loving and caring wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and dear friend, Margaret will be dearly missed by all those who loved her. 

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Keith (Kelly) Hoffman and Brian (Lori) Hoffman; grandchildren: Kristy (Jeff) Gilbert, Jennifer Hoffman, Christopher (Jordan) Hoffman, and Amanda Hoffman; great-grandchildren: Trenton and Jack Gilbert, and Camilla Rose Hoffman; sister, Doris (Bob) Switzer and her longtime friend and companion Dean McCormick.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Rudolph and Amelie Kahl; husband John “Jack” Hoffman; and in-laws Karl and Ruth Hoffman.
