HOLSTEIN - Sandra L. Thorborg, 81, of Holstein, formerly of Schaller and Galva passed away on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024 at 10 a.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Galva with the Rev. Paul D. Egger officiating. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein is in charge of the arrangements.

Sandra L. Thorborg was born July 25, 1943 at the family home in Schaller, to Everett and Helen (Breihan) Woodke. She was confirmed on April 14, 1957 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Schaller. As a youngster, she loved jumping on the trampoline, riding horses and playing with her friend, Sharon. After graduating from Schaller High School in 1961, she took a job at Citizen’s First National Bank.

Sandy met the love of her life, Larry Thorborg and they married Nov. 8, 1964. They lived for a short time in an apartment in Storm Lake before moving to the farm near Washta for two years.  Later, they moved to the family farm in Logan Township in 1967 where they would raise their family.

Sandra was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Galva where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #454 of Galva. She took great joy in her grandsons.

She is survived by her son, David of Galva; daughter, Sara (Rory) Carstens of Holstein; grandsons, Matthew Thorborg of Holstein, and Darren Thorborg of Ida Grove;  a brother, Robert Woodke of Bemidji, Minnesota; sister, Mary (Marvin) Nehring of Aurelia, Iowa, and a sister-in-law, Nancy (Paul) Rassel of Marcus, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and friends; and her beloved cat Blackie.

Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; son, Mark; parents, Everett and Helen Woodke; and brothers, Wesley Woodke and Jerry Woodke.
