She died peacefully, in her sleep, surrounded by loved ones, July 15, 2021, at Edencrest of Green Meadows in Johnston.

Roberta "Bert" Jean Fries, daughter of Woodrow "Buster" and Virginia (Kolb) Sindt, was born March 25, 1933, in Ida Grove. She grew up in Ida Grove and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1952.

On Feb. 6, 1955, Bert married her true love, Dale John Fries, at United Methodist Church in Ida Grove. They made their home in Ida Grove for the majority of their lives.

In Bert's teen years, she worked at Heffron Drug as a "soda jerk," up until 1969, when she became a mother. She later worked at Midwest Industries part-time for about 10 years.

Bert enjoyed traveling near and far. She traveled with her husband on trips with the Emerald Club to Alaska, Hawaii and even Paris. But, a trip to the ice cream shop was always a good trip!

Bert also enjoyed her summers at Lake View, skiing and boating. Later years came bridge club and grandkids. She was a member of United Methodist Church, where she participated in Rainbow during high school and then Eastern Star, up until 2017.

In 2017, Bert and her husband moved to be closer to their son and grandsons in Des Moines.

Survivors include her loving husband, Dale Fries; a son, Jay (Lisa) Fries of Des Moines; two grandsons, Tyler Fries and Trevor Fries; and her younger sister, Shirley Alm of Sun City, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents.

Memorials can be made to the family.
