The Ridge View football team ran into some tough competition on Friday night, as the Raptors opened district play with a loss to a talented Hull Western Christian squad on the road by a score of 42-7. The Wolfpack got on the board first with a touchdown run at the 5:42 mark of the first quarter. Western Christian would tack on another touchdown run with a minute and a half left in the quarter to make the score 14-0 after one period. Ridge View would respond with a touchdown run of their own, coming with nine minutes left in the second quarter, to cut the lead to 14-7.
The OABCIG volleyball squad traveled to Kingsley to take on the Kingsley-Pierson Panthers on Thursday night. The Falcons earned a 3-0 sweep, but it didn’t come easily. OABCIG won game one handily by a score of 25-16. The Panthers made game two a little more interesting, but the Falcons still managed a 25-20 win. In game three, Kingsley-Pierson gave it all they had to avoid the sweep, but OABCIG ultimately outlasted the Panthers 31-29 to earn the victory.
The OABCIG cross country squads took part in the Chris Smith Invitational at the Sioux Rapids golf course on Thursday. In girls’ action, Olivia Schnabel led the way for the Falcons, finishing in a time of 24:33. Faith Johnson crossed the finish line a couple minutes later with a time of 26:37. Fiona Ahonen turned in a time of 29:25, followed closely by Allison Clark, who crossed the finish line in 31:47.
The Ridge View girls and boys cross country teams competed in the Chris Smith Invitational at the Sioux Rapids golf course on Thursday. In the girls’ race, Addison Tesch captured 16th place out of 87 runners with a time of 22:01. Xaria Rojas turned in a time of 26:03, followed closely by Molly Reiss with a time of 27:11. Kinzie Hagen finished with a time of 30:09, while Tess Pacza contributed a time of 33:18.
The OABCIG football squad could not have gotten off to a faster start against East Sac on Friday night, as Gabe Winterrowd returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. The Falcons kept pouring it on from there, rolling to a 54-7 victory.
The Ridge View defense really came to play in last Friday night’s football victory over East Sac at Holstein. The Raptors held the Raiders to only a field goal, and that came after a Ridge View fumble in their own territory. After recovering the fumble, East Sac managed only one first down and settled for a field goal and a 3-0 lead with four minutes left in the second quarter.
The Ridge View girls volleyball squad traveled to Lawton last Tuesday to take on the Eagles of Lawton-Bronson. The Raptors won a nail biting first set 25-23. In the second set, Ridge View took control and pulled away for a 25-16 victory. Game three would be another close one, however, as Ridge View slipped past the Eagles by a score of 25-22, earning the sweep of the match.
The OABCIG volleyball squad got off to a fast start last Tuesday in Odebolt. The Falcons jumped out to a 9-1 lead in game one and pulled away for a 25-10 victory over Woodbury Central. The Wildcats fought back in game two, however, and earned a 25-15 victory to even the match at 1-1. OABCIG got back on the winning track in game three, building a 14-6 lead and coming away with a 25-16 victory to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The Falcons again took control in game four, fighting off a Woodbury Central comeback attempt at the end and winning 25-18 to seal the 3-1 victory.
The OABCIG boys and girls cross country squads took part in the Okoboji Invite at Emerald Hills Golf Course. In boys action, Chance Buns finished 33rd out of 83 runners with a time of 20:11.10. Hunter Maier had the next best time for the Falcons, finishing in 21:43.40. Quintin Samway turned in a time of 24:11.30, while Will Gebel was close behind with a time of 24:37.60. Matthew Holbrook contributed a time of 26:59.90.
The Ridge View cross country teams took part in the Le Mars meet at Prairie Rose golf course last Tuesday. In boys action, Brody Bisenius took 37th place out of 97 runners, with a time of 20:05.46. He was followed closely by Odin Hanson with a time of 20:24.47. Robert Forristal turned in a time of 22:26.07, while Tristan Werner finished in 23:37.58. Immediately after him was Cole Jochims with a time of 23:38.53. Matthew Forristal was right behind him with a time of 23:59.09.
