Dale A. and Eula D. Nook

Dale A. and Eula D. Nook

Dale and Eula Nook began their life together June 4, 1955. They loved each other deeply and knew that their life together was more important than their lives as individuals. They requested that a single obituary be written after they both passed away.

Eula Deloris (Anderson) Nook was born June 27, 1934, to William “Vernal” and Gladys (Zach) Anderson in Hamburg, Iowa. Eula attended country schools near Hamburg and graduated from Hamburg High School in 1951. She graduated with a BS in education from Peru State Teachers College in 1955 and earned her master’s in education from Morningside College in 1973.

Dale Albert Nook was born Dec. 28, 1930, to Albert and Ardith (Foxal) Nook in Fremont County, Iowa. Dale attended country schools and graduated from Hamburg High School in 1948. He served as a corporal in the Army from 1951 to 1953 and studied agriculture at Iowa State University for two years.

Dale and Eula were married in Hamburg on June 4, 1955. They lived in several communities in Iowa, Minnesota, and South Dakota before moving to Holstein in 1963. While the health of their son, Roger, necessitated relocating to Colorado Springs in 1965, they returned to Holstein in 1968. Holstein has always been the family home.

Eula taught elementary grades in a few communities in Iowa and Colorado but spent most of her career teaching junior high language arts at Holstein and Galva-Holstein Community Schools.  Dale worked in agribusiness as a feed salesman for most of his career and enjoyed working with farmers and their families around northwest Iowa.

Dale and Eula were very active in their son’s activities and those of their church and community.  Both volunteered with Boy Scouts and at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Dale was the founding president of the Holstein Jaycees, served on the Holstein City Council, and was an active member of the Holstein American Legion.

Dale and Eula loved to travel and to help others. In retirement, they volunteered at numerous Christian camps and at local food pantries. They enjoyed helping family, friends, and neighbors in whatever way they could. In retirement, Dale enjoyed making wooden furniture, clocks, and toys for family and friends. Both lived a life of service to others.

Eula Nook passed away on May 5, 2023, in Parkersburg, Iowa, after battling pancreatic cancer. Dale Nook passed away of natural causes on Aug. 18, 2026, in Parkersburg, Iowa. Their love for each other continues to grow through the lives of their family and many friends who meant so much to them.

Dale and Eula were preceded in death by their son Roger, their parents, and Dale’s brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Dorothy Jean Nook. Left to cherish their life are their children Mark and Cheryl Nook, Cedar Falls, Iowa and Brian and Deb Nook, Perth, Australia; grandchildren Mehgan and Matthew Clark, Aaron and Sarah Nook, Tana Nook and Scott Buchanan, Cory Nook, and Erik Nook and Scott Miller; seven great grandchildren; Eula’s brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Marian Anderson, Cook, NE; eight nieces and nephews and their families; and numerous friends and neighbors.

Our family is eternally grateful for the love and care that Jill Kalkwarf provided to mom and dad throughout their time in Parkersburg. Your love, friendship, and care made their last days special for all of us. Thank you to the residents and staff of Parker Place Retirement Community for the friendship and care you extended to mom and dad.

In honor of Dad’s military service and our parents desire to serve others in need, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Holstein American Legion Post to support the Avenue of the Flags and/or the University of Northern Iowa Foundation to support the Panther Food Pantry.
