1928 – 2025

 

GENESEO, ILLINOIS - Dale Kenneth Doescher, 96, of Geneseo, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Aurelia First United Methodist Church, 31 Valor Road, Aurelia, IA, 51005. Burial will follow at Diamond Cemetery, Cherokee County, Iowa. The visitation will be held at the church, one hour prior to the funeral service. Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory will be assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Galva Iowa American Legion, PO Box 122, Galva, IA, 51020.

Dale was born Dec. 18, 1928, the son of Richard and Rose (Vach) Doescher, in Cuming County, Nebraska. His parents died in a train-car accident before his first birthday and he was raised by an aunt and uncle, James and Anna Konopasek. Dale served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. His unit was assigned to Alaska to maneuver in extreme cold. He remained in the United States Army Reserves until 1957. After his discharge from active duty, Dale worked various jobs in order to pursue his desire to farm. During that time, he met Joyce Verjean Hickey and they married on Feb. 5, 1956. Dale and Joyce farmed in Pender, Nebraska for fourteen years until they moved to Galva, where they farmed for twenty-five years. He was a member of Galva United Methodist Church of Galva, the American Legion, Cherokee County Farm Bureau, and Cherokee County Pheasants Forever.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Joyce Doescher of Geneseo, Illinois; and children, Robert (Gail) Doescher of Geneseo, Illinois, and Linda (Gary) Paulson of Maryville, Tennessee.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Rose Doescher; his aunt and uncle, James and Anna Konopasek; and brother, Richard Doescher.
