ODEBOLT - Edward John Anderson Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024 at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, attaining the age of 85 years, 3 months, and 29 days.

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa with Rev. David Viggers officiating. Recorded musical selections included “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” by Thomas Dorsey & George Allen and “Deck of Cards” by Wink Martindale. Serving as honorary pallbearers were all of Edward’s grandchildren. Services were entrusted to the Huebner Funeral Home. 

Edward John Anderson Jr. born on Sept. 6, 1938, in Vail, Iowa, the son of Edward Sr. and Margaret (Novotne) Anderson. He attended country school through the 8th Grade. Edward’s faith played an important role in his life. He was baptized in Lake View in the 1950s and became an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt. His commitment to his faith provided him with strength and guidance during difficult times.

On Nov. 8, 1960, Ed married the love of his life, Ramona Huisenga in Minnesota. They were blessed with six children and made their loving home in Odebolt. Edward’s dedication to his family was evident in everything he did; he cherished his family more than anything.

Throughout his life, Edward took on various roles and shared his talents with others. For ten years, he worked as a farmhand for Merle Quirk. He then became a milkman hauler for AMPI in Lytton for sixteen years before working as a repairman for Einspahr and Jensen Dealership in Odebolt. He also worked for Arthur Elevator and Lindberg Farms in Odebolt before finally retiring from FSC in Denison in 2000.

Ed pursued various hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He had a deep love for animals and enjoyed caring for them throughout his life. Gardening was another passion of his; growing flowers and occasionally grew his own vegetables. Edward valued staying informed and made it a habit to read the newspaper regularly. He also found relaxation in fishing and hunting, where he connected with nature. A true connoisseur of snacks, he had a particular fondness for Little Debbie Snak Cakes and proudly held the title of top Girl Scout cookie buyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sr. and Margaret Anderson; brother, Ronnie Anderson; brothers-in-law, Melvin Langner, Bill Custer, and Donald Hoefling; and sisters-in-law, Brenda Huisenga and Roberta Hoefling.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ramona Anderson of Odebolt; children: Connie Anderson of Norfolk, Nebraska, Lori and her husband Roman Balogh of Plano, Texas, Scott Anderson of Kiron, Mike Anderson and his wife Michelle of Walford, Iowa, James Anderson and his wife Liz of North Sioux City, and Angela and her husband Curtis Korner of Schleswig; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Anderson of Wall Lake; sister, Mary Langner of Nemaha, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Roland Huisenga and his wife Pat of Sibley, Roger Huisenga and his wife Gloria of Odebolt, and Robert Huisenga of Sioux City; sister-in-law, Ruby Custer of Soldier; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
