HOLSTEIN - Douglas D. Mason, 80, of Holstein, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein. A funeral service will be held Monday, Aug. 5, 2024 at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Holstein with the Pastor Betty officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024 from 4-6 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein is in charge of the arrangements.

Douglas D. Mason was born on Feb. 20, 1944 in Sac City, to Darwyn and Shirley (Schramm) Mason. Doug graduated from Crestland High School in Early in 1962, then from Buena Vista College in 1966.

Doug was united in marriage to Donna Jarvis on Feb. 1, 1964. To this union, three children were born, Jeff, Scott and Brenda. They made their home in Sac City, then Anthon, and then finally Holstein in 1971.

Doug worked as a teacher in the Anthon-Oto Community Schools, then as a crop adjuster at Square Deal Inc. Co. and Nationwide Ins. Co. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Holstein where he served as an usher.  Doug enjoyed golfing on Saturday mornings with his fearless foursome and belonged to the Holstein Country Club.  In his free time, he enjoyed boating with his family, driving around in his truck, family time and drinking the “King of Beers.”

He is survived by his wife, Donna; three children and their spouses, Jeff (Windy) Mason of Holstein, Scott (Mary) Mason of Sioux City, and Brenda (Randy) Schnell of Waukee, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Kennedy, Ethan, Gabi, Chase, Hailey, Hunter, Brenden, Elin and Elle. He is also survived by his siblings, Colette Marple of Alta, Rick (June) Mason of Storm Lake, and Mary Jo (Rod) Koth of Sheldon.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Darwyn and Shirley Mason and in-laws Raymond and Dorothy Jarvis, his grandparents, Ellsworth and Elsie Mason, and nephew Justin Marple.
