Marzella “Marcie” Louise Schuldt, the third born of seven children born to John R. and Mary “Val” (Haas) Greene, was welcomed into the world on April 9, 1947, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She entered into her heavenly home one day shy of her 78th birthday.

Growing up in a large family in Dakota City, Iowa, Marcie received her education in Humboldt, Iowa and graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1965. During her high school days, Marcie was employed at the local Muota Theater in Humboldt.

Marcie soon met the love of her life, Robert Schuldt, at the local bowling alley and the couple were married in Sac City, Iowa, on May 6, 1966. The couple settled in Sac City where they were both employed at the local grocery store. The couple were over the moon when they welcomed their daughters, Gina and Bridget, into the world.

In 1978, the family relocated to Odebolt, and with the purchase of one of the local grocery stores, Bob’s Foodland, the couple became owner and operators of a family-owned business. Marcie loved to cook and bake along with a love of being in the kitchen, which would spark a career with the local school as a cook. In 1998, Marcie and Robert went their separate ways. Marcie relocated to Holstein, where she became employed with the Galva-Holstein Community Schools as a cook, and then later promoted to Director of Food Service. After a long career in food service, Marcie hung up her apron and retired in 2010, and took on the full-time role of grandma.

Marcie’s seven grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She enjoyed attending all of their activities and stayed busy keeping up with their day-to-day lives. Marcie was overjoyed and full of pride watching her family continue to grow, with welcoming the next generation of 13 great-grandchildren.

Cooking and baking were Marcie’s love language. An accomplished scratch cook, Marcie could always be found in the kitchen whipping up potato salads for weddings, anniversaries, holidays, and special occasions. You could smell her crispy fried potatoes from a room away and imagine the delectable pie or dessert that would follow the wonderful meal you were about to be served by one of the most gracious hostesses. During the holidays, family and friends always looked forward to Marcie’s sweet treat.

In her younger years, Marcie was an avid bowler and loved bowling on her local ladies’ league, with the group accomplishment of a trip to the state bowling tournament. She also relished in a good game of cards. Marcie was a well-known card shark by her family and was always up for a hand or two. Later in life, Marcie enjoyed trips to the casino, movies, and her all-time favorite Hallmark romances especially, “When Calls the Heart.”

Marcie will be remembered for her heart of gold and willingness to help others. Marcie’s life will continue to live on through her wonderful gift of tissue donation.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Gina Cougill of Las Vegas, Nevada and Bridget (Mark) Drey of Ida Grove; seven grandchildren: Brennan Cougill of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Brady (Toni) Van Dusen of Sioux City, Ashely (Bryce) Wittrock of Ida Grove, Austin (Karissa) Drey of Battle Creek, Tyler (Kristyn) Drey of Fremont, Nebraska, Tristin (Jason) Glienke of Aurelia, Iowa, and Brooklyn (Zach) Snyder of Las Vegas, Nevada; 13 great-grandchildren: Connor, Lilly, Liam, Paisley, Clara, Charlotte, Evie, Weston, Hudson, Beckett, Brooks, Oliver, and Emma; brothers John (JoAnn) Greene of Ida Grove, Tom (Sylvia) Greene of Forsyth, Missouri, and Jim Greene of Branson, Missouri; sisters Rozella Thompson of Sparta, Missouri, Teresa (Cory) Friedman of Agoura Hills, California, and Carolyn (Mark) Nice of Reeds Spring, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Marcie was preceded in death by her parents John and Val Greene; maternal and paternal grandparents; and brother-in-law Ed Thompson.
