Drivers heading home for their evening commute met with severe weather as an unusual storm barreled into northwest Iowa.
“I have looked at damages to multiple rural properties in Ida County last night and this morning,” said Ed Sohm, Emergency Management Agency coordinator for Ida County. “Most of that is to farm buildings.”
The Ida Grove Kiwanis held their seventh annual Family Christmas Ball at the Skate Palace on Saturday, December 11. The night featured music by OABCIG students, Key Club games and Giant Plinko, a live auction and silent auction, prize raffles, and a delicious dinner served by Best of Barb’s Catering.
OABCIG Odebolt and Ida Grove elementary students got into the Christmas Spirit with school concerts on December 16.
Student Jett Lundell got to play the role of Jolly Old St. Nick while Karis Buehler took on the role of Mrs. Claus over at Odebolt Elementary. Mrs. Linda Johnson provided direction for the Odebolt performance.
OABCIG Ida Grove Elementary 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders dazzled the crowd at their holiday concert under the direction of Mrs. Fritz.
A graduate of Ida Grove High School has been named the first woman CEO and president of an international association devoted to networking and education among military, government and industry.
It’s been a long journey for the Ida Grove native.
“I grew up there in Ida Grove,” said Lt. General (Ret.) Susan Lawrence Thursday by phone from Florida where she currently resides.
Graduating in 1972, she enlisted as a private and then worked her way up to become a non-commissioned officer, “jumping out of airplanes” as Lawrence explained.

With a theme of Gnome for the Holidays, Shop Holstein will kick off Thursday, Dec. 2 and run through Sunday, Dec. 12.
A variety of activities are on the menu for Shop Holstein.
Kicking things off will be holiday sampling over at the Holstein Country Club. That is set for 6 to 8 p.m.
Then, Saturday, Dec. 4, Santa photos will start the day and run from 9 to 11 a.m. at Stubbs Memorial Library with lunch immediately following from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Veterans Memorial Hall. That will be an opportunity to support the community’s new aquatic center.
Downtown Battle Creek will take on a Christmas flair coming up.
Set for Dec. 12, the celebration will take place throughout town with Santa pictures, food and a painting class among the varied offerings for the day.
Back after a year off in 2020, the event has been bringing a celebration to downtown Battle Creek for roughly 10 years.
The fun begins at 10 a.m. with BC Bakery & Café hosting an open house and refreshments while the Battle Creek Community Center and fire station will see a craft and vendor show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Merriment is planned as area students ring in the Christmas season with a slate of concerts coming up.
OABCIG will have an elementary concert at both the Ida Grove building and Odebolt building Thursday, Dec. 16, from 7 to 8 p.m. for both concerts.
The Ida Grove building’s concert will take place in the auditorium while the Odebolt building’s concert is set to take place in the elementary/middle school gym.
Ridge View students will take part in a band and vocal concert at the high school Monday, Dec. 13.
