As of the Christmas break, several basketball players from OABCIG and Ridge View are leading the Western Valley Conference in a variety of statistical categories. In boys basketball, Cade Harriman of Ridge View is leading the conference in scoring with 174 points scored on the season. Beckett DeJean of OABCIG is currently fourth in the conference with 139 points scored.
After a competitive first quarter, the OABCIG girls basketball squad turned it up a notch in the second quarter and pulled away from River Valley at Correctionville. The Falcons held a slim 9-7 lead after one quarter, but outscored the Wolverines 16-3 in the second quarter to take control of the game and grab a 25-10 halftime lead. OABCIG kept the pressure on in the second half, and led 38-17 after three quarters. The Falcons coasted to victory from there, coming away with a 48-25 win.
The OABCIG boys basketball squad left little suspense against River Valley in Correctionville, racing out to a 22-6 lead after one quarter. The Falcons continued the onslaught in the second quarter, going into halftime with a 46-17 cushion. OABCIG extended the lead to 65-24 after three quarters before cruising to the 73-34 victory.
The Ridge View Raptor girls basketball team fought for an early lead against Manson-Northwest Webster, then exploded from there for a 30-point victory. The Raptors led 14-8 after one quarter, then outscored the Cougars by nine points in the second quarter to lead 29-14 at the halftime break. Ridge View really busted out in the third quarter, outscoring the Cougars 18-4 en route to a 47-18 lead after three quarters. The Raptors coasted home from there to secure the 56-26 victory.
Newell-Fonda got off to a good start against Ridge View, grabbing a 14-2 lead after one quarter. The second quarter saw more of the same as the Mustangs pushed the lead to 28-8 at halftime. The Raptors regrouped and outscored Newell-Fonda in the third quarter, but still trailed 45-26 after three stanzas. The Mustangs finished strong to come away with a 65-39 victory.
In a battle of Ida County teams, the OABCIG boys basketball squad got off to another fast start Friday night against Ridge View. The Falcons took leads of 8-2 and 15-7 before going into the first quarter break up 18-12. Something was different on this night, however, as the Falcons kept the momentum going, building the lead to 31-15 and taking a 40-23 cushion into the halftime break. OABCIG came out strong again in the third quarter, growing the lead to 57-32 after three stanzas.
The OABCIG boys basketball team got off to a scorching start on Thursday night in Sac City, building a 17-4 lead over the host Raiders and taking a 17-8 lead at the end of one quarter. The Falcons half-court trap was giving East Sac fits, as it resulted in numerous turnovers and transition baskets. A competitive second quarter left OABCIG with a 34-23 lead at halftime. The Raiders would make things interesting in the second half, cutting the lead to 34-28. But the Falcons went on another run and led 45-30 after three quarters.
