The Raptor softball squad came up short in a frustrating matchup with Unity Christian, last Monday in Galva. The Ridge View gals hit the ball well, but seemingly always directly to a Knight fielder. Unity Christian, on the other hand, struggled to put the ball in play, striking out 14 times and coming up with a mere two hits. The Knights did, however, manage to plate a run in the second inning for a 1-0 lead, which would end up being the final score. A big moment in the game came in the fourth inning, when Ridge View had runners on first and second with nobody out.
How time flies! It may seem hard to believe, but the high school softball and baseball regular seasons are almost over, and playoff action is ready to begin.
In Class 2A Region 2, the Ridge View softball squad will take on MVAO-COU, on Wednesday, July 5 at 7 p.m. in Mapleton. Ridge View sports a 14-10 record, while MVAO-COU boasts a record of 17-9. The Rams won the previous two meetings this year, 9-4 in conference play and 9-1 in the conference tournament. The Raptors are hoping the third time’s a charm.
On a warm night in Moville, the OABCIG and Ridge View baseball squads met up in the first round of the Western Valley Conference tournament. The game was a rematch of a 2-1 Raptor victory in Ida Grove earlier in the season. Ridge View got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead after one inning. The Falcons bounced back in a big way, erupting for six runs in the second inning for a 6-1 advantage. OABCIG scored four more times in the fourth inning to increase the margin to 10-1. The Raptors battled back, as Owen Worthan belted a three-run double to narrow the deficit to 10-4.
After falling behind early against Westwood, the Ridge View softball squad battled back, and eventually took control of their Western Valley Conference tournament game in Mapleton. The Rebels drew first blood, scoring twice in the first inning and once in the second for a 3-0 lead. The Raptors answered with four runs in their half of the second inning for a 4-3 advantage. Ridge View increased the margin to 5-3 in the third inning, but Westwood cut the lead to 5-4 in the fourth.
In a Western Valley Conference tournament matchup in Onawa, the OABCIG softball squad soundly defeated the Eagles of Lawton-Bronson 11-1. Following a scoreless first inning, the Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second, then erupted for four runs in the third inning to build a 6-0 advantage. The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning to trim the lead to 6-1, but OABCIG responded by plating five runs in the fifth for a ten-run victory.
The Ridge View baseball squad overcame a slow start to defeat Lawton-Bronson 5-3 in conference tournament action at Lawton on Thursday night. It was the Eagles who struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Raptors were held scoreless until the fourth inning, when they came alive for three runs to build a 3-1 advantage. Ridge View tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning to increase the margin to 5-1. As it turned out, they needed those runs, because Lawton-Bronson wouldn’t go down without a fight, scoring twice in the seventh to cut the lead to 5-3.
On a beautiful night for a game, the Falcon baseball squad really came to play against Westwood last week in Ida Grove. Following a scoreless first inning, the Falcons struck first with a run in the second for a 1-0 lead. OABCIG scored twice in the third inning to push the advantage to 3-0. The Falcons added a score in the fifth inning to increase the margin to 4-0. OABCIG blew the lid off the game in the sixth, plating six runs to walk off with the 10-0 victory.
The outcome was decided early when the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire (GTRA) baseball team traveled to Holstein on Thursday, to take on the Raptors. Ridge View jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning, then scored twice more for a 7-0 advantage after two. The Raptors erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 14-0 lead. GTRA avoided the shutout by plating a run in the fifth inning, but Ridge View came away with a dominating performance in the 14-1 victory.
The Raptor softball squad got off to a fast start and never looked back against Whiting-Siouxland Christian last week in Galva. Ridge View scored a pair of runs in both the first and second innings to jump out to a 4-0 lead. After a scoreless third inning, the Raptors put the Warriors away for good, exploding for eight runs in the fourth to run away with a 12-0 victory.
A fast start by the OABCIG softball team didn’t hold up, as the Wolverines clawed their way to a 10-3 win on Wednesday night in Battle Creek. The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning. In the third inning, River Valley tallied a pair of runs to tie the game at 2-2. The Wolverines steadily pulled away from there, scoring twice in the fourth inning for a 4-2 advantage and plating three runs in the fifth to build the margin to 7-2. In the seventh inning, River Valley scored three more times for a 10-2 lead.
