In a contest that was much more competitive than the final score indicates, the West Monona girls basketball squad pulled away late to defeat OABCIG on Friday night in Ida Grove.
The Cherokee girls basketball squad, ranked 14th in the state, made the trip to Holstein last Monday, to take on the home team Ridge View Raptors. The Braves used an aggressive, full-court defense and jumped out to an early 13-6 lead.
The Falcon wrestling squad made the trek to Lawton on Thursday night, to take on Lawton-Bronson and MVAO/COU. The hometown Eagles of Lawton-Bronson defeated OABCIG 48-30, while the Rams of MVAO/COU bested the Falcons 45-30.
The Ridge View girls wrestling squad has four grapplers ranked in the top 10 in the state of Iowa. The rankings are compiled by the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association (IWCOA).
The Falcon boys bowling squad traveled to Le Mars on Thursday to take on the Bulldogs. In round one, Blaise Wilcox had the high individual game, rolling a 243. Ben Hofmeister also cracked the 200-mark with a 207, and Jackson Groth came close, firing a 190.
The OABCIG boys basketball squad turned up the defensive pressure, and pulled away from MVAO/COU 60-35 in Ida Grove on Tuesday night. The Falcons started the game with full-court pressure, causing the Rams to commit a few turnovers, and built a 16-10 lead after one period of play.
The MVAO/COU girls basketball squad traveled to Ida Grove on Tuesday night, and tripled up the OABCIG girls 75-25. The Rams, ranked 12th in the state, featured a tall and talented inside player, good outside shooters, and all-around athleticism.
The OABCIG boys basketball team got the season off to a good start, defeating Denison-Schleswig 77-67 on Tuesday night in Ida Grove. The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with the Monarchs grabbing a 16-15 lead after one period of play.
