The Ida County Board of Supervisors met on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 9 a.m. Board members in attendance were Chair Raymond Drey and Rhett Leonard. Creston Schubert participated via phone conference.
County Engineer Jeff Williams presented a salary certification for Shane Walker, Operator/Bookkeeper at $28 per hour effective Nov. 15.
A final voucher for Cedar Valley with regards to the overlay project of M25 was presented. The Chair was authorized to sign the voucher.
OABCIG school board members heard concerns about bullying as a community member spoke during the most recent board meeting.
Michelle Spotts was concerned about the bullying going on in the high school with the phenomenon ongoing for a while now, she said. Locations have included classroom and a school bus incident. Michelle said that her son was beaten up recently and that he knew he was going to get beaten up because he helped another kid.
Scott Clark just recently became the Director for the Recreation Center in Ida Grove. Scott has worked for the rec center going on three years now serving as receptionist and then interim director. The last two summers, Scott has served as umpire for the Rec league. Scott states the activities are as such: There may be a craft show or fair coming up for Christmas. Basketball season is coming up with games starting in January. Then will be Golf and then baseball and softball in the summer.
The Galva-Holstein Board of Education and the Schaller-Crestland Board of Education met in joint session on Monday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. in the Holstein media center.
Board members in attendance were Grant Aschinger, Don Kalin, Beth Schossow, Matthew Wittrock, Jamie Whitmer and Jeff Witzke. Administrators in attendance were Superintendent Adam Bisenius and Principals Beth Bellinghausen, Katrisha Rinnan and Joshua Sussman.
One man is dead and another is in jail facing a first-degree murder charge after a fight in the 200 block of Main Street Sunday that allegedly saw the accused killing a man and then going on to punch and kick the dead body and fight with a witness as well as responding EMS personnel.
A fight in progress was reported to the Ida County Sheriff’s Office at 7:33 p.m., according to Sheriff Wade Harriman. Minutes later, deputies found Eduardo Diaz II, 26, of Holstein, dead on a sidewalk right on Main Street.
With Ida County’s application to the Power Up Iowa’s County Seal Program, a County Seal Award Designation has been received for Ida County’s engagement with the wind energy industry, its educational programs, and/or its manufacturing producers.
Local acknowledgment was received Nov. 7.
As a recipient of the Silver County Seal Award Designation Ida County receives praise as a success story of Iowa’s homegrown renewable energy industry.
The Women's Auxiliary put on a Veterans Brunch at the Battle Creek Community Center from 8-10 a.m. On Friday Nov. 11. Quite a spread was served for the veterans such as egg bake, biscuits and gravy and cinnamon rolls.
On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, Deb Reinhardt did a presentation at the Odebolt library of the Freedom Rocks in all 99 counties. Deb and Her husband have visited all the freedom rocks in these counties. Deb put on a slide presentation and told of the artist and the Freedom Rock tour and foundation.
I found Jared Lund helping out at the Harvest Supper fundraiser at the Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, Ia. Jared said he grew up here so he thought he would help out. His wife Sarah was working right along with him. Jared has been out of work since Aug. 9. Jared has lung cancer and the prognosis is that if he does not have any more treatments, he has only 6-9 months to live. The spot on his lung is growing and he can’t do radiation treatment right now. He is already missing half a lung on one side. “But I am not going to quit. I will take the treatments,” says Jared.
The Ida Grove City Council met on Monday, Nov. 7 at the temporary City Hall in the Rec Center. Council members in attendance were Gregor Ernst, Jason Schable, Jeff Miesner, and Jared Bogue, as well as Attorney Ryan Gaskins and Mayor Devlun Whiteing.
The Council agreed to Moorehead Avenue Bridge Pay Application #9 in the amount of $16,644 to Godbersen Smith Construction. The council then approved pay application #3 to Ferguson Waterworks in the amount of $162,830, for the Water Improvement Project.
