The OABCIG girls basketball squad lost to a talented Westwood team last Tuesday at Sloan. The Falcons played the Rebels tough in the first quarter, trailing only 11-9 after one period. Westwood outscored OABCIG 14-2 in the second quarter, however, to take a 25-11 halftime lead. The Rebels extended the margin to 50-21 after three quarters and coasted to a 76-31 win.
The OABCIG boys basketball team picked up a nice 54-50 win over Cherokee after trailing by as many as nine points in the game. The Falcons got off to a fast start, taking an 8-2 lead early in the game. The Braves battled back, however, and took a 13-12 lead after one quarter. A competitive second quarter ended with Cherokee taking a 23-21 advantage into the halftime break. The Braves extended the lead to 31-22 in the third quarter before OABCIG rallied to cut the lead to 35-33 heading into the final period of play.
The Ridge View wrestling squad took part in the Herb Irgens wrestling tournament in Ida Grove over the weekend. At 106 pounds, Chayse Hansen won by fall over his Southeast Valley opponent and scored three team points. At 138 pounds, Conner Jacobson won by fall over his South Central Calhoun opponent and scored three team points. At 195 pounds, Tanner Edwards placed sixth and scored 13 team points. After receiving a bye, Edwards won by fall in round two.
In a back and forth affair, it was the Ridge View basketball squad that prevailed in the end against Woodbury Central on Friday night. The game was tied at 13 after one quarter, and the Wildcats of Woodbury Central took a 31-28 lead into the halftime break. The Raptors would trail by as many as seven points in the third quarter before rallying to take a 44-41 lead after three periods of play. The game stayed close in the fourth quarter, but Ridge View made some key baskets and sunk their free throws down the stretch to escape with the five-point victory.
The Ridge View girls basketball squad raced out to a 29-4 first quarter lead Tuesday night in Sioux City, and kept their foot on the gas, claiming a 76-25 victory over Siouxland Christian. The Raptors built on their 25-point first quarter lead and extended the margin to 51-16 going into the halftime break. By the end of the third quarter, Ridge View held a 66-20 lead, and finished the game strong to take home the 76-25 win.
In a key Western Valley Conference basketball matchup, the OABCIG boys came out on top of Ridge View 59-26. Both teams entered the contest with 5-1 conference records. The Falcons built a 10-4 lead in the first quarter, but the Raptors rallied to trim the margin to 15-13 at the first quarter break. OABCIG would own the second quarter, however, outscoring Ridge View 13-1 to take a 28-14 lead at halftime. The Falcons extended the lead to 44-21 after three quarters before finishing the game strong to secure the 59-26 victory.
The OABCIG wrestling squad took part in the Western Valley Conference tournament in Mapleton on Saturday. Myles Beck highlighted the day with a first place finish for the Falcons in the 106-pound weight class. Beck won all three of his matches by fall and earned 26 team points for OABCIG. Dayton Ullrich placed fifth in the 120-pound weight class, including one victory by fall, and scored seven team points. Tyler Raasch placed sixth in the 132-pound weight class, with one victory coming by way of a fall, and scored six team points.
In a battle of Ida County teams, the Ridge View girls basketball squad jumped out to a 9-0 lead against OABCIG, and led 11-2 after one quarter. A competitive second quarter saw the Raptors take a 26-13 lead into the halftime break. Ridge View came out strong after halftime and scored the first 12 points of the third quarter, and led 52-20 after three quarters. The Falcons kept battling and won the fourth quarter, but the Raptors came away with the 58-32 win.
The OABCIG Falcons boys bowling troop picked up a 2,451 to 1,745 victory over the visitors from Pocahontas. In round one, Aidan Bower of OABCIG had the high game with a 211. Bower also had the high two-game series with a score of 392. Behind him was Jackson Godbersen, who rolled a 342, followed closely by Damon Jones, who fired a 334. Ben Hofmeister finished with a 294, while Zach Thayer rolled a 268. Right behind him was Evan Jordan with a 263.
The OABCIG girls basketball team came up short in a defensive struggle with Storm Lake on Saturday afternoon in Ida Grove. A competitive first quarter ended with the Tornadoes up by just a point, 11-10. A tightly contested second quarter saw Storm Lake take an 18-15 lead into the halftime break. The Tornadoes extended the margin slightly in the third quarter, taking a 28-22 lead into the final stanza. Storm Lake was able to close out the game in the fourth quarter, going home with a 35-26 victory.
