Coach Jory Hemer and the OABCIG wrestling squad are working hard as another new season begins. The Falcons have some talented wrestlers returning from last season, including state qualifiers Caden Spetman and Watson Susie. Coach Hemer also mentioned Carter Schaeding as a top wrestler returning from last year’s squad.
The Ridge View wrestling squad hosted a quadrangular meet in Holstein last week. The Raptors dominated Sioux City Heelan (69-12), before coming up just short against Alta-Aurelia (40-36) and West Sioux-Hawarden (52-21). Ridge View 69, Sioux City Heelan 12
The 2025-‘26 OABCIG girls basketball team will rely on returning talent, as they shoot for a winning basketball season. The Falcons lost a couple of starters to graduation in Josilynn Pritchard and Livi Schroeder, but return a core group of contributors in juniors Jenessa Kolar, Irelyn Wittrock, Lia Hansen and Brady Youngren.
“We return a great deal of experience,” said coach Larry Allen, “so that should be to our advantage.”
The OABCIG boys basketball squad is looking to repeat some of their accomplishments from last season, including a conference tournament championship and post-season tournament run. The Falcons lost only one starter to graduation, that being all-conference guard Brysen Kolar.
OABCIG will feature returning starters in Kade Spotts, Evan Hoffman, Jaxx DeJean, and Raif Jensen, as well as letterwinners J.J. Parks, Eidan Skirvin, and Jacob Claussen.
The OABCIG girls bowling team has several talented bowlers returning to usher the Falcons into a new season. Elizabeth Hoefling, Jaelynn Pierce, Torilyn Wallace and Jaylee Williams are four of the seven letterwinners from the 2024-25 bowling season that are returning this year! “Lizzy Hoefling and Tori Wallace are starting back up this season right where they left off last season,” said coach Wylene Redenius.
The OABCIG varsity girls bowling squad defeated the Harlan Cyclones last week in Harlan! The Falcons tallied 1,840 pins to Harlan’s 1,680 pins.
OABCIG’s round one scoring came from Torilyn Wallace (315), Lizzy Hoefling (258), Jaylee Williams (224), Jaelynn Pierce (208) and Shaylynn Blume (199). Hope Gann (198) also bowled, but her scores were not used.
The OABCIG girls basketball started their season on a high note, traveling to Logan-Magnolia and thumping the Panthers 60-38.
The Falcons jumped out to a 9-0 lead, and had a 15-8 advantage after one quarter of play. OABCIG built their lead to 12 points at halftime, 30-18.
The Falcons outscored Lo-Ma 21-6 in the third quarter, taking a 51-24 cushion into the final period of play. The home team Panthers kept fighting, but OABCIG finished strong for a 60-38 season-opening victory.
The Ridge View girls basketball team opened the season in fine fashion last week, defeating the visitors from MMCRU 47-39 in their home gym at Holstein.
The contest was close for most of the night, as the visiting Royals clung to a one-point lead of 11-10 after the first quarter.
Ridge View ratcheted up the defense in the second quarter, creating some steals with their pressure defense and holding MMCRU to six points, as they took a 20-17 advantage into the halftime break.
The Iowa Football Coaches Association (IFCA) has released its All-State teams for the 2025 season.
In Class 2A, Jaxx DeJean of OABCIG was named to the 1st Team Offense as a utility (multiple position) player. The Falcons’ Kade Spotts was selected for the 2nd Team Defense as a linebacker.
In Class 1A, Blake Myrtue of Ridge View received 2nd Team Defense honors as a utility player.
The Ridge View girls wrestling squad traveled to Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge last week to participate in the “Triton Clash” competition. The Raptors took on Audubon, GTRA (Graettinger), Vinton-Shellsburg, Council Bluffs Lewis Central, and Manson-Northwest Webster.
In the Audubon match, Ridge View wrestlers Lauren Siegner (110 lbs), Tegan Robertson (120 lbs), and Addisyn Pritchard (125 lbs) each pinned their opponents.
