The OABCIG girls golf squad competed at a Western Valley Conference meet in Sloan last Monday. Rylee Krayenhagen of OABCIG won medalist honors by firing a 44. The Falcons placed third out of nine teams with a team score of 202. Kingsley-Pierson won the meet with a total team score of 191. Bente de Vries and Natalie Burk fired identical scores of 52 for the Falcons. Gwen Jacobson fired a 54, followed closely by Hayden Zimmerman with a 55. Olivia Schroeder contributed a 67.
The Ridge View boys golf squad took part in a dual golf meet against Newell-Fonda in Newell on Tuesday. The Raptors won the meet with a score of 170, while the Mustangs shot a 172. Levi Albers of Ridge View tied for medalist honors by firing a 40. He was followed closely by Gavin Vohs and Robert Forristal, who both shot identical scores of 43. Right behind them was Kellen Clausen with a 44. Drew Burk fired a 46, while Aiden Deitering shot a 48.
The Ridge View girls golf team took part in a Western Valley Conference tournament at Sloan last Monday. The Raptors finished sixth in the nine-team field with a team score of 219. Kingsley-Pierson won the meet with a team score of 191. Ridge View was led by Zoey Aschinger, who fired a 51. Right behind her was Callie Wendt with a 54 and Emma Mentzer with a 55. Natalie Madsen shot a 59, followed closely by Claire Wandrey with a 61, and Kierstin Volkert with a 62.
The Falcon boys track and field squad took part in the Cyclone Ken Carstens Invitational at Harlan on Tuesday. In the 100-meter dash, Ethan Behrendsen captured fourth place with a time of 11.68 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, Gabe Winterrowd won third place in a time of 23.31 seconds, while Behrendsen took sixth place with a time of 23.83 seconds. Winterrowd captured first place in the 400-meter dash, with a winning time of 52.21 seconds. Quintin Samway completed the 800-meter run in a time of 2:35.10, while Alex Weir finished the 1600-meter run in 6:30.51.
The Ridge View girls track and field squad picked up another title, this time taking first place in the Raider Relays at Sac City. The Raptors scored 193 team points, compared to second place IKM-Manning with 112 points.
Taya Phillips took first place in the 100-meter dash with a winning time of 13.46 seconds. Gabi Mason won second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.07 seconds, while Phillips finished fourth in a time of 28.61 seconds. Madison Stowater captured second place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:42.28.
The Ridge View girls track and field squad earned a first place finish at the annual Russ Kraai Relays in Holstein on Tuesday. The Raptors scored 172.5 team points, compared to second place Sioux Central with 139 points. Madison Stowater placed third in the high jump competition with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches. Shae Dutler captured first place in the long jump contest with a leap of 16 feet, 4 inches, while Gabi Mason took third place with a jump of 15 feet, 6 inches.
The Ridge View boys track and field squad competed at the Raider Relays in Sac City on Friday. The Raptors finished fifth in the 10-team field with 82 total points. Westwood won the meet with 132 team points.
OABCIG boys golf coach Kurt Hofmeister shared his thoughts on the 2023 season. Hofmeister discussed who the team lost to graduation, as well as his top returning players.
“Our key loss to graduation was Jackson Godbersen,” said Hofmeister. “Our top returning players are Griffin Diersen, Ben Hofmeister, Kale Ladwig, Kane Ladwig and Axton Miller.”
Miller won the state golf championship for the Falcons last season. Hofmeister talked about kids that might play a bigger role this season.
OABCIG girls golf coach Jacob Henderson is excited for the 2023 season. Henderson discussed who he lost to graduation, as well as who his top returning players are.
“We did lose one of our top golfers from last year in Avaree Miller,” said Henderson. “But we have several varsity players returning from last year. It will be good to have our state qualifier back, Rylee Krayenhagen.”
Henderson talked about newcomers that might be able to help the team.
Raptors golf coach Alex Warnke has a solid group of returning golfers. Warnke talked about his top returning performers from last season, and top prospects to fill lost players from last year’s team.
“We have returning letterwinners in Levi Albers, Cayden Clausen, Gabe Chance, and Gavin Vohs. Some of our top prospects include Jackson Struck, Kyle Burk, Kellen Clausen, Drew Burk, and Robert Forristal.”
Warnke shared what he considers to be the team's strengths.
