The Farmacy in Ida Grove is a new business opened up by young aspiring owners, Brian and Lisa Lundell. It has the look of the 50’s and 60’s with decor Brian’s parents, Jim and Julie Lundell have helped to decorate the place with. Jim has traveled many miles to find just the right fit for this new hang-out. Brian and Lisa manage the place along with one full time employee and five part-time high schoolers.
I recently had the opportunity to sit down and speak with Robby Holmes, originally from Ida Grove. In the last several years, Robby has embarked on a few outreach projects in Zanzibar, an Island in Tanzania. Tanzania is a beautiful country found on the east coast of the continent of Africa, just to the south of the equator.
“Zanzibar is sort of the Hawaii of Tanzania,” explained Holmes.
An Ida Grove woman is accused of attacking her husband in the face with a hammer. Sara Blanche Shupe, 36, was arrested Jan. 29 after law enforcement responded to a home in the 2000 block of Keystone Avenue for a domestic incident.
“I arrived on scene and spoke with Austin Shupe,” said Deputy Jared Clausen. “Austin advised that he was struck in the nose with a hammer by his wife Sara Shupe. I observed his nose as bloody and swollen. I spoke with one of his daughters and she advised that her mother, Sara hit her dad two times in the face.”
The Odebolt-Arthur Battle Creek-Ida Grove (OABCIG) School Board conducted a Special Meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at noon in the boardroom at the OABCIG High School in Ida Grove.
In attendance were board members Konradi, Rasmussen, Loger, Petersen, and Jacobson.
Also attending the meeting were Matt Alexander, Superintendent, and Julia Mogensen, Board Secretary. The board approved Early Retirement Applications from Linda Warnke, Carol Sadler, Renae Brookbank, Darla Ludvigson, Tina Krager, Patrick Miller, Kurt Hofmeister, and Deanna Thies.
The Ida County Board of Supervisors met on Feb. 1 at the courthouse. Board members in attendance were Chair Creston Schubert and Devlun Whiteing.
The board decided to allow all elected officials except for Supervisors to optionally have county-paid family health insurance benefits, effective July 1.
The supervisors authorized the Chair to sign the Wellness PTO Policy for 2023.
Bret Warnke was approved as a member of the Compensation Commission for Eminent Domain Proceedings until Jan. 3, 2024.
Wanita Friedrichsen truly has led a lofty career in insurance and real estate. Her smile and friendly aura could carry any of us through the sale of a home. She states with her lovely upbeat words that sound like a song,
“I have been doing this all my life since I was 19 years old.”
Friedrichsen was born and raised in Wall Lake. Freddie and Wanita married right out of high school. She began work for Richard Swanson and then a year or so later, Howard Hustedt came along. Friedrichsen states,
“Richard Swanson and Howard Hustedt were my college. They taught me a lot.”
Dana Miller from Unity Massage & Wellness provides great comfort to the community. She is located in Dr. Deb Ulrich’s office in Ida Grove. Before venturing into this career of massage therapy, Miller had great respect for Ulrich’s work. Miller credits Ulrich for getting her through stressful times and giving her an understanding that the mind holds on to things in the body.
The King Theatre in Ida Grove rises up from demolition delays to COVID to now, WOW! Not just movies, but live events as well. Doug Clough, the King Theatre’s manager tells of the journey.
Ida Grove resident Al Corbin has been helping with the local Meals on Wheels program for the past ten years. “I enjoy helping people,” explained Corbin.
Each morning, Monday through Friday, Corbin heads to the Ida Grove rec center and helps prepare meals from 9 to 12.
“The meals come in and I check the temperature, put them in the oven to warm them up, and make sure I’ve got the right amount.”
Corbin has to take a test to be certified, just like someone running a restaurant.
