A lovely Valentine’s dinner was had at The Inn in Battle Creek on Feb. 14 hosted by Lynne Bjorholm. Lovely decor accented the rooms of The Inn as many tables were occupied by couples from the community. The couples had their choice of a tasty Ribeye Steak or Parmesan Ranch Chicken with delicious sides of a baked potato, green beans with bacon, sweet corn, and a dinner roll and salad beforehand. An assortment of pies delighted the couples for dessert. They had their choice of strawberry, apple, cherry, lemon, or chocolate pies made by Dee Pierce.
Sunrise Coffee will be opening up in mid-March in Odebolt. Quinn and Kenzee Reik are excited to arise with Odebolt. The Odebolt Community Foundation showed them that people in Odebolt do want to support new businesses. Kenzee stated that her and Quinn both turned 30 this year and they decided that they just want to have something of their own. Kenzee says,
“We started brainstorming what could be supported in the small town of Odebolt. We thought that most people like coffee and we looked at other small towns that have coffee shops.”
Jim’s Appliance in Odebolt has been in business for 65 years. Jim Wareham started the business 65 years ago. His son Kurtis works with him now to keep the business going well. Wareham says at that time 65 years ago, he remembers there being five TV and appliance stores in Odebolt. He thought it was stiff competition then. Wareham is not a stranger to competition as he has fought it many times over the years. Nowadays, people go to the city, but it is the fact that Jim’s Appliance services the appliances locally that is the key.
The Ida Grove City Council conducted a Special Council Meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at the Temporary City Hall in the Rec Center. Council members in attendance were Gregor Ernst, Jeff Miesner, and Ange Johnson.
President Konradi called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. The board recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Julia Mogensen, Board Secretary, conducted a roll call as follows: Present: Konradi, Rasmussen, Loger, and Lundell. Absent: Petersen, Goodman, and Jacobson. Also attending the meeting were Matt Alexander, Superintendent, and Julia Mogensen, Board Secretary.
The Galva-Holstein Board of Education met Monday, Feb. 13 with the following board members present: Grant Aschinger, Don Kalin, Jamie Whitmer, Matthew Wittrock and Jeff Witzke, as well as Superintendent Adam Bisenius.
The board agreed to approve financial reports for January 2023 as presented.
The board then approved the resignation of Ashley Shindoll as a para-educator, and approved the hiring of Elizabeth Peterson as an elementary para-educator.
The board members agreed to the whole grade share transportation billing from fiscal year 2022.
The Ida County Board of Supervisors met on Feb. 10 in the courthouse. Board members in attendance were Chair Creston Schubert and Devlun Whiteing. Raymond Drey was present via phone conference.
County Engineer Jeff Williams was on hand to discuss current road conditions. The board approved Creston Schubert as Clerk of Douglas Township to fill a vacancy until Dec. 31, 2024.
DAVEY’S Bar & Grill is welcomed into uptown Ida Grove. Davey and Kim Clausen will have their opening day Feb. 16. Davey has been cooking for around 10 years. He says,
“I just like cooking. I like seeing the look on people’s faces when it's good. I share my food with friends and family.”
He taught himself by watching videos and trial and error. Kim states that they moved into a new home around 10 years ago and purchased a pellet grill. That is where Davey got started smoking meats. They have served his food at friend’s graduations and other parties and it has gone well.
The band TRUST played at the King Theatre on Feb. 11 for the second time. Clayton Bengford and Shawn Fertig were the lead singers on this night. Bengford sang out boldly with his smooth strong vocals while keeping the beat. Fertig got the crowd going with his high energy and playfulness. Bobbi Neswick on bass guitar charmed the audience with his sweet aura adding to the group. Alex Neuman on guitar strummed with perfection and classic remarks in response to the razzing the leads were giving him.
The Ida Grove City Council met on Monday, Feb. 6 at the Temporary City Hall in the Rec Center. Council members in attendance were Gregor Ernst, Jason Schable, Ange Johnson and Jeff Miesner. Councilman Jared Bogue joined the meeting electronically.
