As city officials hope for the completion of work with the E. Second St. project, options were the focus of discussion for Ida Grove City Council.
During the Aug. 18 meeting, council talked about traffic flow concerns.
With school starting, discussion turned to detouring traffic.
Parking along Barnes Street was approved to be prohibited until work is completed and E. Second St. reopened.
The annual audit for OABCIG saw a small decrease in revenues.
Nolte, Cornman & Johnson P.C.’s audit saw revenues total $18,290,739 for the year ending June 30, 2024, down 1.29 percent from the previous year.
A decrease in grants, contributions and revenue from restrict interest was the primary factor.
Meanwhile, expenses were $16,067,507, up 1.39 percent.
As of Aug. 18, Vollmar Motors in Holstein has been renamed Total Motors.
“This way, it lines up closer with the store in Le Mars so everything flows together,” said Dylan Taylor of Total Motors.
Total Motors purchased Vollmar Motors in November 2021.
What had been the Vollmar Super Service Station was renamed Vollmar Motors in 1951.
Having the business under one name will simplify billing and interactions with vendors, Taylor said.
The Odebolt Community Foundation put on a dinner fundraiser on Thursday, Aug. 21, to help support the project to build a new building on Main Street.
Kenzee Reik, president of the Odebolt Community Foundation, gave a short speech during the event.
“We all just want the best for Odebolt, and want to encourage economic development and growth in our community to enhance all of the great aspects we already have here,” Reik said.
The King Theatre in Ida Grove was packed to the brim on Wednesday night for a showing of the classic 1973 film “American Graffiti.” Outside, the street was lined with muscle cars, antiques, and a few flashy new sports cars, as the American Graffiti night in Ida Grove drew a crowd of onlookers to the nostalgic spectacle.

On Friday, Aug. 15, the 100th anniversary of the Arthur Public Library was celebrated with a gathering at the town’s community center, which is where the library is located.
Free movies, a magic show, food and lots of activities took place.
The free movie was Disney’s “Wreck-It Ralph,” the 2012 animated feature starring the voices of John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman.
Things are taking shape at the Ida Grove Public Library.
Roof installation has been completed in recent days for the new gazebo project.
“The project is expected to be completed by early fall,” said Angela Scales, library director. “We experienced some delays this spring and summer with rainy, wet weather, but work has moved quickly since Godbersen-Smith Construction prepped the area and poured the foundation.”
A couple of components still remain for the project.
KidZone Child Care Center in Ida Grove conducted an open house for community members on the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 13.
The event featured food, a petting zoo, games, and tours of the center.
KidZone Director Sydney Jones said she was excited to show off the work that has taken place at the facility.
The demolished property at 402-406 2nd St. is continuing to cause trouble for Ida Grove.
During an emergency meeting Aug. 11, a three-person quorum met in special session to review information.
