Kids and adults gathered at Moorehead Park on Sunday, Sept. 14, to have fun catching butterflies as part of a study about monarch butterfly migratory patterns.
The captured butterflies were delivered to Ida County Naturalist Danielle Bennett, who attached a small numbered tag to a wing.
Prior to sending participants out into the field, Bennett gave a short talk about the purpose of the event.
The Ida County Board of Supervisors heard good news about courthouse projects.
Auditor Kristy Gilbert briefed the board about courthouse work during the board’s Sept. 15 meeting.
“I believe this week they’re going to be working on blowing the insulation into the attic,” said Gilbert.
Taking a long-term look at things like boilers would be prudent, according to Gilbert.
Ida Grove has received no bids for property at 408 Second Street, prompting council to pursue other options.
A public hearing Sept. 15 before the Ida Grove City Council saw council hear that some interest has been expressed toward the building.
However, no sealed bids have been received, and no-one at the meeting made an offer.
The city will now move to research options for a sale of the property.
Rep. Mike Sexton has resigned effective Friday from his seat, prompting a special election.
Sexton’s resignation from House District 7 was announced in a press release Friday afternoon.
Odebolt resident Rachel Burns declared her candidacy on Sept. 13 for the Iowa House District 7 seat.
The District 7 race gained additional attention last Friday, Sept. 19, when Mike Sexton resigned from the seat to accept a position in the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Iowa law specifies that the governor will call a special election to fill a vacancy in the Iowa Legislature.
