Ida Grove’s four-day Heritage Days celebration starts at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, with an ice cream social at Horn Memorial Hospital.
“That will be followed by the farmer’s market (at Godbersen Park from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.), and then we’ll do our traditional Little Miss and Mr. Heritage Days, followed by our free movie at the King Theatre,” said Stephanie Mulstay, who is a member of the Ida Grove Heritage Days Committee.
In the culmination of Holstein’s 2025 Kinderfest, festivities kicked off on Thursday with a free showing of the film “Time Bandits” at the Holstein State Theatre.
“Through the Decades” was the theme of this year’s event.
Activities ramped up on Friday night with food trucks, a car/tractor show, inflatables, cornhole tournaments, a beer garden and live music drew a good crowd to 2nd St. on both sides of Main St.
Saturday turned out to be a hot day for Creek Days in Odebolt, but a huge crowd showed up anyway.
After Friday’s fireworks and pool party, Saturday was packed with activities, including a fun run, pancake breakfast, tractor and car shows, activities at the museums, a big vendor show, lots of food options, a lengthy parade, a bags tournament, bingo and a little bit of music toward the end.
“After spring work got completed, we were able to get back in here and make a big push to have it ready for Heritage Days so people can come take a look at it,” said Brian Lundell of the work taking place at the old Conoco gas station at the corner of 2nd and Quimby streets in Ida Grove.
He and his dad, Jim Lundell, are working to restore the building to its condition when it was a functioning service station in the middle part of the 20th century.
The Horn Memorial Hospital Foundation hosted its annual Golf Outing fundraiser on Friday, at the Ida Grove Golf and Country Club. Proceeds from the event will go toward the purchase of medical equipment and investments in patient care and diagnostic efficiency.
With roughly 300 ash trees to get rid of in the near future, the City of Ida Grove has asked Ida County about the possibility of hauling and burning ash trees out at the landfill.
Input from the DNR is critical, the board heard.
“So my question is, if we did this, would this solve our…place for county citizens?”, said Supervisor Devlun Whiteing.
Whiteing also asked were the ground to be muddy and wet, whether the city had a staging area to store tree debris.
Land owned by the OABCIG Community School District will be transferred to the City of Odebolt.
The land is currently being used for Little League games.
According to Superintendent Matt Alexander, once legal documents are complete, a public hearing will take place.
An Ida Grove Elementary kitchen addition saw board approval for the bid with Slechta Masonry totaling $34,795.

The 2025 Odebolt Creek Days celebration arrives this Friday.
“Everything’s really coming together,” said Samantha Fertig, treasurer of the Odebolt Development Committee (ODC).
“We’ve got a bunch of new activities coming this year and some of the same old ones. One of our exciting things is an ax-throwing trailer that will be free for the community to use.”
Axe throwing will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday in the beer garden.
