Battle Creek celebrated Independence Day in grand style with town-wide celebration over two days.
The Battle Creek American Legion Auxiliary Craft/Vendor Show kicked off the day on Friday morning.
A big crowd turned out for the Battle Creek Grand Parade that snaked around town for an hour.
Lots of activities filled the day, which was capped by fireworks in the evening.
The 2025 Ida County Fair gets underway next Tuesday, July 15.
The main spectator event on the first day is the horse show at 4 p.m.
Animal weigh-ins take place on the morning of Wednesday, July 16.
The Clover Kids Pet & Stuffed Animal show will take place at noon on Wednesday, with the 4-H Dog & Pet Show starting at 12:30 p.m. and followed by the Open Dog Show.
The Farm Bureau (paid admission) supper will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday night.
The Ida County Board of Supervisors returned to the idea of allowing Conservation to retain funds from camping fees.
Starting with July 1, Ida County Conservation will be able to keep half of the fees from camping.
This will help to fund improvements, the board had heard.
The funds collected will go into the same fund as with cabin fees, the board learned.
Meanwhile, the board heard about an issue with air conditioning in the courthouse.
City-owned property next to the GOMACO Car Museum was the central item during a special meeting of the Ida Grove City Council.
Property at 402-408 Second St. drew discussion with news that the roof appears to be caving in along with metal sheets blowing loose.
Watertight Roofing and Brentwood Roofing had both been contacted in recent days when the city became aware of the severity of the situation, City Clerk Heather Sweeden told council.
