Ida County Sanitation and Holstein Sanitation, owned and operated by Justin and Val Georg, and Billy and Laura Carnine, have been serving the area for almost 50 years. The group also runs Precision Towing out of Ida Grove. Justin explained what services the businesses provide.
“We do heavy duty towing and recovery,” he stated, “equipment hauling, light duty towing, lock out, jump starts, rotator tow truck lifting/rigging, commercial, residential, and farm garbage services, and roll off garbage container services.”
Quyntyn Johnson, is the senior vice president of operations at the Travel Center, which is a franchise of TA. You can see the new signage on the travel center in Holstein. Johnson is originally from Chicago, but they are based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. They have several locations encompassing convenience stories and truck stops. When asked what brought them here, Johnson replied,
In downtown Danbury, a clothing store with a wide variety of styles is ready to help women find just the right look. Steffany Bettin, owner of The BlueJay Boutique, has been operating the business in her hometown for almost 10 years. Steffany and full-time employee Jenna Gustafson enjoy working with customers to meet their fashion needs. Bettin described some of what the store has to offer.
“Our main focus is ladies clothing,” she said. “We also carry shoes, accessories, and handbags, etc. Now, we’ve started into little girls’ clothing, and we have a good gift selection, too.”
Ridge View High School educator Justin Kinney likes to have a positive impact on kids’ lives. He enjoys seeing them grow as students and athletes, and achieve success. Kinney explained his duties at the school.
“I teach Outdoor Education, Fitness, Health, and Physical Education,” he stated. “I also currently coach football and archery.”
Kinney’s entire teaching career has been spent at Ridge View.
“I did my student teaching here in the spring of 2011,” he said. “I was offered a job during that time, and I have been at Ridge View ever since.”
With 55 years in service, Beckman Motors in Odebolt serves the public well. Larry Beckman bought out Friday Motors in 1968. He said he once worked for a car dealership in Sac City and wanted to branch out on his own. After buying Friday Motors, they moved down the street with the purchase of the Ford dealership where the community center stands today. Twenty plus years ago, they moved their dealership on Hwy. 175.
Paul Neumann, owner of Neumann Construction in Odebolt, enjoys the feeling of seeing a job to its completion. Other than some occasional temporary and part-time help, Neumann is pretty much a one-man crew. He described the different skills that he has to offer.
“I generally do all types of construction,” he said. “I do a lot of remodeling and millwork, cabinet making, concrete work, framing, trimwork, finish work, just about everything.”
Gary Streck, owner of Gary’s Barber Shop in Ida Grove, has been in the haircutting business for over 50 years. His shop is located on Susan Lawrence Drive, between the Skate Palace and Highway 175.
“I tell people it’s the castle next to Bomgaars’ old building,” he said.
Gary graduated from Sioux City Barber College in the spring of 1969. He shared how he got his start in Ida Grove.
“I came to town in ‘69,” he stated, “and I worked for Roger Spotts doing a year-and-a-half apprenticeship. After that, Roger sold the business to me in ‘71.”
Jenny Seuntjens, Graphic Designer for the Ida County Courier-Reminder and The Holstein Advance, has reached an impressive 10-year milestone in her career. Seuntjens discussed her role at the newspaper.
The Ida County Historical Society has work to be done on the Moorehead House in Ida Grove. Moorehead House Museum included a bid for a new gutter from Lance Ladwig in the amount of $2,750. Jackie Netherton will call Blake’s Seamless Gutters in Schleswig for another estimate. There were no bids on replacing the porch flooring. Jackie Netherton will call local contractors for estimates to be discussed at the next meeting.
Brian Barry, along with his father Mike, is the owner of Barry Motor Company on Highway 175 in Danbury. The Ford dealership, which employs around 15 people, provides many services. Brian briefly described what Barry Motor Co. has to offer.
“We do sales and service, a full-line body shop, parts, tow truck service calls, and pretty much anything to do with the auto business.”
