The regular meeting of the Ida County Historical Society was held at the Ida Grove Public Library Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. with members Steve Wilkins, Morris Hurd, Judy Uhl, Jim Holst, Ann Holst, Emily Hoaglund, Jean Crawford, Jackie Netherton, Ray Netherton, Nancy Ford present along with Mary Morgan, guest from the Ida County Courier. Morris Hurd presented his treasurer's report. There were some talks on how to raise money. Hurd explained that they need to be asking now while the work is being done because people are more apt to donate before rather than later.
Tammy Neubauer of Ida County was inducted into the 2023 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the 4-H Exhibits Building at the Iowa State Fair on Sunday, Aug. 20. Ninety-one Iowa counties participated this year and selected 127 inductees for their outstanding service and dedication to 4-H. Inductees or their surviving family members were presented a certificate by the Iowa 4-H Foundation President, David Bolte, and Interim State 4-H Program Leader, Mitchell Hoyer, as they were introduced on stage.
The Ida Grove Farmers' Market held their First Annual Summer on 2nd last Thursday. There were lots of vendors, local community members being dunked in the dunk tank, Neil Anders playing his guitar and much more.
It was painted by Dave Fuller of Parker, South Dakota. It took him about 10 days to complete the mural and painting in the gym. He told me that he would often work late at night, and rest during the day. He took a couple of days off in the middle of the project to recharge his batteries. Dave presented us with some options that he put together, and we were able to modify his designs and settled upon this one. We are very excited to show off the new look in the gym this fall.
Tyler Rehse, owner of Rehse Construction in Ida Grove, knows the value of a hard day’s work. Tyler enjoys working with his customers, and seeing his work pay off in the finished product. Rehse described the type of work he does. “I do a lot of concrete and a lot of buildings,” he said. “I start doing concrete in the spring; as soon as the frost comes out, we hit the ground running. When I pour concrete, I employ anywhere from three to four guys. All the prep work and everything else, I do on my own.”
Barbie Bash spreads loads of pink on the street of Holstein on Aug. 18 near rehabd. and CornerHaus101. They had a Barbie-style pink fainting sofa on the street in front of rehabd. Amy Conover, owner of rehabd. had an adult sized barbie case in which you could get your picture as a real life Barbie. She also had sales on her clothing line. Alyssa Dreeszen, owner of CornerHaus101 had special drinks available for the night. You could BYOB-Bring your own Barbie in for a discount. This all happened before the movie Barbie that was showing at the State Theatre.
Jo Puhrmann, owner of MoJo’s Antique Barn in Cherokee, is living out her dream. She has long had a love of antiques, and now has her own store to buy and sell them, along with other unique items. Puhrmann shared some details about her business.
Mike Hoefling, facility manager at Nutrien Ag Solutions in Odebolt, was recently honored for 25 years of service with the company. Hoefling described the company’s basic services.
“We have all of your crop input needs - seed, chemistries, fertilizers, lime, fungicide, and insecticide.”
Nutrien Ag Solutions, with nine full-time and three part-time employees in Odebolt, has locations worldwide. Hoefling, an Odebolt native and 1997 graduate of Odebolt-Arthur, began working for the company in high school.
Gobbies in Odebolt threw a great fundraiser for the teachers this school year on Aug. 18. Teachers do so much to get their room ready for the year and the community wants to help.
There were Auction items and raffle tickets for many prizes displayed. Neil Anders played his soulful soothing sound to entertain the crowd and a crowd of people did fill Gobbies up this night.
