The OABCIG wrestling squad took part in the Treynor Invitational on Saturday. At 106 pounds, Myles Beck finished first and scored 26 team points. Beck won by fall in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. In the championship match, Beck won a 12-8 decision over his opponent from Panorama.
At 126 pounds, Caden Spetman placed fourth and scored 16 team points. Spetman won by fall in the quarterfinals and the consolation round. At 145 pounds, Matthew Holbrook placed sixth and scored eight team points. Holbrook won by fall in the consolation rounds.
The Ridge View boys erased a nine-point fourth quarter deficit to earn a conference-opening basketball victory over Lawton-Bronson, 55-51, on Friday night. A hard-fought first quarter ended with the two teams tied at 16. The second quarter saw more of the same, as the Raptors took a 28-27 lead into the halftime break. The Eagles came out strong in the third quarter, grabbing the lead and building a 45-36 cushion heading into the final period. Ridge View would not go away, however, and clawed back into the game before coming away with the four-point victory.
In their season opener, the OABCIG boys basketball team looked impressive, handing Kingsley-Pierson a 53-38 defeat in Ida Grove. The Falcons got off to a fast start, jumping to a 13-4 lead after one quarter. The second quarter was more evenly matched, as OABCIG outscored the Panthers by two points to take a 24-13 halftime advantage. The Falcons kept the pressure on in the third quarter and led 40-27 after three periods of play. In the fourth quarter, OABCIG once again outscored the Panthers by two points to wrap up the 53-38 victory. <p>
The Ridge View girls basketball squad got their conference season started on a high note, defeating Lawton-Bronson 56-45 on Friday night. The Raptors took control early, jumping to a 16-4 lead after one quarter and expanding the margin to 32-15 at halftime. The second half was a bit more evenly contested, as both teams scored 12 third quarter points, leaving Ridge View with a 44-27 cushion after three periods of play. The Eagles made up some ground in the fourth quarter to make the final score a bit deceptively close at 56-45.
The OABCIG varsity girls tallied 1,987 pins to Denison-Schleswig's 2,581 pins at Ida Bowl in Ida Grove. OABCIG’s round one scoring came from Jade Wilcox 449, Kendra Baker 248, Kenzey Davis 245, Lizzy Hoefling 214 and Leah Sholty 210. Erika Swanger also bowled but her scores were not used.
OABCIG's round two Baker games were 119, 135, 96, 118, 153 for a total of 621. .
The OABCIG boys bowling squad kicked off their season against a tough Denison-Schleswig team, falling 2712-2449. In round one, Quinten Wallace had the high two-game total with a score of 341, followed by Dillon Hanneman with a 327. Blaise Wilcox cracked the 300-mark with a 306, while Evan Jordan was close behind with a 296. Ben Hofmeister rolled a 264, while Triston Peterson fired a 249.
The OABCIG girls basketball squad ran into a tough Kingsley-Pierson squad in their season opener, losing a 72-35 decision to the Panthers. K-P got off to a hot shooting start, taking a 21-8 lead after the first quarter. The Panthers expanded the margin to 35-13 at halftime. OABCIG picked up their scoring in the third quarter, but still found themselves trailing 59-25 after three periods of play. The Falcons played the Panthers fairly even in the fourth quarter, but by then the damage was done in a 72-35 loss.
The 2022-2023 OABCIG girls basketball squad features a wealth of experience, as they return four starters and six letterwinners. Returning starters include Alex Schroeder, Krista Sibenaller, Haley Harms, and Abby Winterrowd, as well as key contributors Karter Hemer and Livi Schroeder. The Falcons will have a new face on the bench, as Larry Allen takes over coaching duties. Allen has previously been an assistant basketball coach at Odebolt-Arthur for eight years and head girls coach at Odebolt-Arthur for 15 years.
The Ridge View, Storm Lake, Alta-Aurelia, and River Valley school districts have joined forces to compete under the Ridge View Raptors banner in this first year of IGHSAU-sanctioned girls wrestling in the state of Iowa. The team traveled to Sioux Rapids on November 15th for their first meet of the year, hosted by Sioux Central. Three Raptor wrestlers were unbeaten. Tatum Shepherd won all three of her matches by pin. Shania Graybill and Tyrany Mason won both of their matches by pin. Isabel Ekchan, Jolynn Tiefenthaler, Nyamal Tut, and Ariana Arreola also won matches.
The OABCIG boys basketball squad hopes to build on their success from the previous season. Last year’s team grabbed a share of the Western Valley Conference title and won the conference tournament. Gone from that team are point guard Easton Harms and post player Jaxson Clausen. But the Falcons do return a number of key players, including leading scorer Beckett DeJean and shooting guard Kane Ladwig.
