In a mild upset, the Ridge View girls basketball squad got the better of West Monona on Saturday night in Holstein. The Spartans came into the game with a 9-4 record, but it was the Raptors who would come out on top when the game was over. West Monona held a slim 17-15 lead after one quarter, but Ridge View dominated the second quarter action to grab a 34-29 halftime lead. The Spartans cut into the lead to claw back within two points at the end of three quarters, 47-45. A competitive fourth quarter saw the Raptors do just enough to hold off West Monona and earn the 63-59 win.
The Ridge View girls basketball squad picked up another conference victory on Friday night, besting the host team Woodbury Central 55-42 at Moville. The Raptors built a 15-9 lead after one quarter, but the Wildcats fought back to tie the game at 22-22 going into the halftime break. Ridge View reestablished control in the third quarter, claiming a 41-29 lead heading into the final period of play. The Raptors held on from there, coming away with the 55-42 victory.
The Ridge View boys basketball squad jumped out to an 18-11 lead after the first quarter on Friday night in Ida Grove. In the second quarter, OABCIG outscored the Raptors 24-12 to grab a 35-30 halftime lead. The Falcons pushed the lead to 56-42 after three quarters of play, and cruised to a 70-53 victory from there.
The OABCIG girls basketball squad put up a good fight in the first half, but a strong third quarter by Ridge View propelled the Raptors to victory in Ida Grove on Friday night. Ridge View built a 16-9 lead after the first quarter. A competitive second quarter saw the Raptors go into the halftime break with a 27-20 lead. In the third quarter, Ridge View outscored the Falcons 20-7 to take a 47-27 cushion into the fourth quarter. The Raptors cruised to victory from there, taking home a 64-38 victory.
The OABCIG varsity girls tallied 2,190 pins to Pocahontas' 1,427 pins, Tuesday night in Ida Grove at Ida Bowl. OABCIG’s round one scoring came from Jade Wilcox (359), Abby Minor (315), Payton Mathies (277), Kenzey Davis (273) and Lizzy Hoefling (264). Most of the girls are hitting around or above their practice average. OABCIG's round two Baker games were 167, 103, 137, 133 and 162 for a total of 702. “We are working well together in Bakers and averaging a 140 and above during our last few meets,” stated Falcon coach Wylene Redenius.
The OABCIG boys bowling squad got the best of Sioux Central, 2805-2288. In round one, Ben Hofmeister fired a 265 for the top score. Triston Petersen and Blaise Wilcox rolled identical scores of 223. Hofmeister had the high two-game series with a 478. Petersen fired a 391, followed closely by Wilcox with a 389. Connor Hoegh rolled a 377, while Evan Jordan contributed with a score of 343. Dillon Hanneman rolled a 295 to round out the scoring.
The OABCIG wrestling squad competed at the Graettinger-Terril-Ruthven-Ayrshire (GTRA) Invitational, finishing in tenth place with 68 team points. At 106 pounds, Myles Beck captured second place and scored 20 team points. Beck won by fall in the quarterfinals, then won a 9-2 decision in the semifinals, before losing in the first place match.
In the 126-pound class, Caden Spetman placed fourth and scored 13 team points. Spetman won by fall in the quarterfinals, then lost a 16-10 decision in the semifinals. Spetman then lost in the third place match.
The Ridge View wrestling squad took part in the West Sioux Invite, finishing in eighth place with 84 team points. At 145 pounds, Conner Jacobson captured second place and scored 21 team points. Jacobson won his quarterfinal match by major decision, 13-4. In the semifinals, Jacobson won by fall. In the first place match, Jacobson lost a 9-8 decision.
The Ridge View and OABCIG wrestling squads met up on Thursday night at a tournament in Sloan. The Raptors came out on top by a score of 48-30. At 106 pounds, Myles Beck of OABCIG defeated Ridge View’s Damon Venteicher by fall. At 120 pounds, Tristan Werner of Ridge View defeated OABCIG’s Devon Loger by fall. In the 132-pound weight class, Ridge View’s Jake Cougill won by fall over Tyler Raasch of OABCIG. At 138 pounds, Austin Wood of Ridge View defeated OABCIG’s Matthew Holbrook by fall. At 152 pounds, the Falcons’ Landon Veit pinned the Raptors’ Noah Shepherd.
The OABCIG boys basketball squad found itself in a real dogfight on Friday night in Lawton-Bronson. The Falcons built a 16-12 lead after one quarter. A competitive second quarter found OABCIG leading 36-32 at halftime. The Falcons expanded the margin to 50-42 after three quarters. OABCIG would finish the game strong to come up with a 71-60 victory. With the win, the Falcons improved to 8-0 on the season.
