The Westwood girls used a big fourth quarter to pull away from Ridge View on Friday night at Sloan. The Rebels, undefeated and ranked fifth in the state, claimed a 17-12 lead after the first quarter. The Raptors outscored Westwood 13-12 in the second quarter to trail only 29-25 at the halftime break. The Rebels expanded the margin to 39-31 after three quarters. In the fourth quarter, Westwood blew the game wide open, outscoring Ridge View 20-3 to post the 59-34 win. The Raptors’ season record now stands at 3-4.
The Falcon boys basketball squad used a strong second half to roll to a 27-point victory at Cherokee on Tuesday night. OABCIG built a 16-11 lead after the first quarter. Cherokee fought back to cut the margin to 34-31 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Falcons came out strong, pushing the ball ahead of the Cherokee defense to build a 58-42 lead after three quarters. The fourth quarter belonged to the Falcons as well, as they came away with a 76-49 victory.
The Ridge View girls basketball squad was edged out by Manson-Northwest Webster in a defensive struggle last Monday at Holstein. It was the Raptors who grabbed an early lead of 8-6 after one quarter. The second quarter belonged to the Cougars, however, as they took a 17-11 lead into the halftime break. MNW pushed the lead to 10 after three quarters, 31-21. Ridge View fought back in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to four, but could get no closer and suffered the 39-34 loss.
The OABCIG varsity girls tallied 2,191 pins to MMCRU's 2,764 pins, Friday night in Ida Grove at Ida Bowl.
OABCIG’s round one scoring came from Jade Wilcox (421), Abby Minor (291), Kendra Baker (267), Lizzy Hoefling (260) and Kenzey Davis (247). Leah Sholty also bowled but her scores were not used.
The OABCIG girls basketball squad jumped out to an early lead of 13-9 after one quarter at Cherokee on Tuesday. After a competitive second quarter, the Falcons clung to a 22-20 lead at halftime. The Braves retook the lead at 38-37 after three quarters of play. In the fourth quarter, Cherokee slowly pulled away for a 10-point victory.
The Ridge View boys basketball squad fought back from a 20-point halftime deficit against Manson-Northwest Webster last Monday in Holstein. The Raptors clawed their way back to cut the lead to single digits, but in the end it was too big an obstacle to overcome as Ridge View lost a 65-50 decision.
Both Ida County schools were filling up the basket on Friday night, but in the end, OABCIG had a little too much firepower, claiming an 82-61 victory. A high-scoring first quarter ended with the Falcons up 22-13. The Raptors cut the deficit to six points in the second quarter, but OABCIG responded to stake a 42-25 halftime lead. The Falcons outscored Ridge View 24-18 in the third quarter to push the margin to 66-43 heading into the final period. OABCIG was able to cruise to an 82-61 victory from there.
The Ridge View girls basketball squad got off to a fast start against an OABCIG team that has been playing much better as of late. The Raptors took a 12-3 lead after the first quarter, then expanded the margin to 28-10 at halftime. The third quarter was highly competitive, leaving Ridge View with a 40-21 lead heading into the final period. The Raptors were able to cruise to a 57-35 win from there.
The OABCIG boys basketball squad put on quite a show last Tuesday in Ida Grove. The Falcons used relentless defensive pressure to build a 24-0 lead against the visiting Raiders of River Valley. By the end of the first quarter, OABCIG had rolled to a 26-3 lead, and expanded the margin to 44-11 at halftime. The Falcons outscored the Raiders 25-2 in the third quarter to take a 69-13 lead into the final period, where they cruised to the 84-19 victory. OABCIG had twelve players land in the scoring column, led by Kane Ladwig and Treyten Kolar, who each scored 14 points.
The OABCIG girls basketball squad lost a hard-fought decision to River Valley last Tuesday. The Falcons jumped out to a 10-4 lead, before settling for a 10-6 cushion after one quarter. The second quarter belonged to River Valley, as the Raiders outscored OABCIG 15-6 to take a 21-16 lead into the halftime break. The Falcons cut the lead to 32-30 after three quarters, but River Valley was able to hold them off in the final period, making some late game free throws to come away with the 48-42 win.
