After a slow start, the OABCIG girls basketball squad notched another victory, this time over IKM-Manning on Tuesday night in Ida Grove. It was the Wolves who took the early lead, jumping out to an 11-5 advantage after one quarter. The Falcons fought back, however, outscoring IKM-Manning 15-6 in the second quarter to grab a 20-17 halftime lead. OABCIG also dominated the third quarter, building a 34-20 cushion heading into the final period of play. The Falcons held on from there to earn the 46-35 victory.
The OABCIG boys bowling squad defeated Harlan 2750 to 2173 last week. In round one, Ben Hofmeister had the high score with a 233. Also topping the 200-mark were Blaise Wilcox with a 223 and Connor Hoegh with a 204. Hofmeister also had the high two-game series with a 425. Blaise Wilcox was close behind with a 405. Connor Hoegh fired a 361, while Marshall Mogensen rolled a 346. Dillon Hanneman and Evan Jordan turned in identical scores of 334.
The Ridge View boys basketball squad got all it could handle in last Monday’s 63-59 victory over Ar-We-Va at Westside. The Raptors got off to a good start, building a 21-13 lead after the first quarter. The Rockets would fight back to trim the margin to 31-27 at halftime. A competitive third quarter ended with Ridge View clinging to a 47-44 lead. The Raptors finished the game strong and fended off Ar-We-Va for a 63-59 victory.
In the opening round of the Western Valley Conference tournament, Ridge View came up just short in a defensive struggle against MVAO-COU on Friday night in Mapleton. Neither team could score to start the game, but the Raptors gradually built a 6-0 lead. With one second left in the first quarter, the Rams fired a three-point shot that swished through the net to cut the lead to 6-3 after one period of play. A competitive second quarter ended with Ridge View clinging to a 16-14 halftime lead.
The Ridge View girls basketball squad went to Westside last Monday and bested the Rockets of Ar-We-Va by 26 points. The Raptors got off to a fast start, building a 14-5 lead after one quarter. Ridge View dominated the second quarter action as well, taking a 34-14 cushion into the halftime break. Ar-We-Va came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Raptors 14-13 in the third quarter, but still trailed 47-28 heading into the final period of play. Ridge View dominated the fourth quarter, however, and cruised to the 59-33 victory.
The OABCIG basketball squad survived quite a scare last Tuesday night in Ida Grove. Westwood came to town and gave the Falcons all they could handle in an 82-79 overtime victory. The Rebels held a narrow 18-15 lead after the first quarter, then used a strong showing in the second quarter to push the margin to 36-27 at halftime. OABCIG exploded for 29 points in the third quarter to trim the lead to 60-56 going into the fourth quarter. The Falcons still trailed by three points when Anthony Newquist drained a three-pointer as time expired to send the game to overtime.
The Ridge View boys basketball squad walloped Woodbury Central at Moville on Friday night. The Raptors jumped out to a 24-11 lead after one quarter, then pushed the margin to 42-20 at halftime. Ridge View dominated the third quarter 19-5 to take a 61-25 cushion into the final period of play. The Raptors kept their foot on the gas, culminating in an 83-30 blowout.
The OABCIG wrestling squad took part in the annual Herb Irgens Invite on Friday and Saturday in Ida Grove. At 106 pounds, Myles Beck placed sixth and scored 13 team points. Beck won by fall in his first match, then lost in the quarterfinals. Beck pinned two more opponents in the consolation rounds before coming up short in the fifth-place match.
The Ridge View wrestling squad took part in the annual Herb Irgens Invite this past weekend in Ida Grove. At 138 pounds, Austin Wood lost in overtime, then bounced back by pinning his next opponent. Wood then lost his next match.
In the 145-pound weight class, Conner Jacobson placed fifth and scored 14 team points. After losing a 6-5 decision in his first match, Jacobson won a 9-3 decision in his next match. Jacobson then pinned his next three opponents. After losing in the consolation semifinals, Jacobson won an 8-6 decision in the fifth place match.
The undefeated Westwood girls basketball team put on an impressive display last Tuesday in Ida Grove. The fifth-ranked Rebels got hot from long range, knocking down 10 three-pointers, while OABCIG was only two of 15 from beyond the arc. Westwood built a 15-6 lead over the host Falcons after one period of play, then extended the margin to 30-16 at halftime. The Rebels pushed the lead to 40-22 after three quarters, then cruised to a 52-28 win.
