The OABCIG varsity girls tallied 1,834 pins to Sioux Central's 1,383 pins, Thursday night in Sioux Rapids at Valley Lanes.
OABCIG’s round one scoring came from Kendra Baker (274), Lizzy Hoefling (258), Jade Wilcox (257), Kenzey Davis (233) and Erika Swanger (215). Hailey Wilcox also bowled, but her scores were not used in the team total.
OABCIG's round two Baker games were 103, 133, 97, 115 and 149, for a total of 597.
The Ridge View girls wrestling squad placed 16th out of 138 teams represented at the Girls State Wrestling Tournament in Coralville last week. Tatum Shepherd captured fifth place at 125 pounds, her second time placing in the state tournament. Izzy Deeds placed fifth at 145 pounds, her third time placing in the tournament. All the Raptor girls battled well and every one of them won at least one match, which is pretty rare when taking a team to the state tournament.
After suffering their first loss of the season against Westwood, the OABCIG boys basketball squad responded with a resounding win over Siouxland Christian, 82-55. The Falcons got off to a hot start, building a 27-13 lead after the first quarter. They expanded the margin slightly to 47-29 at the halftime break. A hard-fought third quarter ended with OABCIG up 66-46. The Falcons continued to pull away in the fourth quarter, earning a 27-point victory.
In Western Valley Conference tournament consolation round action, the OABCIG girls defeated Siouxland Christian by nine points on Friday night. The Falcons got off to a good start, building a 15-8 lead after one quarter, then they pushed the margin to 30-20 at halftime. OABCIG dominated the third quarter, and the lead swelled to 53-34 heading into the final period. Siouxland Christian finished the game strong to make the final score a bit deceiving at 65-56.
After a slow start, the Ridge View girls basketball squad fought back to triumph over West Monona in Western Valley Conference action Friday night. It was the Spartans who looked like the better team early in the game, as they built a 9-3 lead after one quarter. The Raptors clawed their way back in the second quarter, trimming the lead to 17-14 at the halftime break. By the end of the third quarter, Ridge View had tied the game at 31. The Raptors dominated the action in the final period to earn a 46-39 victory.
In the consolation round of the Western Valley Conference basketball tournament, the West Monona boys fended off Ridge View by seven points. The Raptors held a slight 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Spartans came back to tie the game at 27 by halftime. A competitive third quarter ended with West Monona holding on to a slim 38-36 lead. The Spartans outscored Ridge View by five in the fourth quarter to hang on for a 53-46 win.
The Ridge View girls wrestling squad took part in the Super Regional tournament at the Tyson Event Center on Friday. Ridge View won the team title in the 23-team tournament with 205.5 points, edging out Spencer who had 202 points. The Raptors got first place finishes from Tatum Shepherd, Destiny Brown, Isabella Deeds, and Daynia Werner. Those four, plus Isabel Ekchan, Jolynn Tiefenthaler, and Maya Waldo all qualified for the girls state wrestling tournament.
The Westwood Rebels squeezed by Ridge View in the opening round of the Western Valley Conference boys basketball tournament. Westwood came to Holstein as the five seed, taking on the four seed Raptors. Ridge View got off to a hot start, building a 22-13 lead after the first quarter. The Rebels fought back in the second quarter to tie the game at 33 going into the halftime break. A hard-fought third quarter ended with the game still deadlocked, this time at 44 apiece. In the final period, Westwood outscored the Raptors by four points to escape with a 62-58 victory.
The Falcon boys basketball squad got off to a great start in the opening round of the Western Valley Conference tournament, dispatching of Woodbury Central 79-26 on Thursday in Ida Grove. OABCIG built a 26-11 lead after one quarter, then increased the margin to 48-16 at halftime. The third quarter was more competitive, but the Falcons still led 61-25 heading into the final period of play. In the fourth quarter, OABCIG outscored the Wildcats 18-1 to run away with the 79-26 victory.
The Falcon boys basketball squad stayed unbeaten against IKM-Manning, but it wasn’t easy. It looked like a blowout was in the making when the game started, as OABCIG jumped out to a 22-7 lead after one quarter. A competitive second quarter saw the Falcons take a 35-19 lead into the halftime break. The Wolves would claw back in the third quarter, however, outscoring OABCIG 17-11 to pull within 46-36 heading into the final period of play. The Falcons did just enough in the fourth quarter to hold on for a 55-47 victory.
